Matrix Owners And Live Setup Here
« on: December 18, 2002, 07:11:00 AM »

I made this thread for Matrix users only, hoping we could get "Matrix users" the best possible solution for xbox and Live connectivity. I personally bought a new Xbox, since there is no solution for my banned v1.0, so I bought a new matrix for my new xbox but have not installed it as I need to make sure we have the correct and safest methods for us to use on Live.

Pogopin stated in another thread:

" From matrix tutorial :
Mode 3 (Dip switch 1 ON, 2 OFF) (LED: Green =Matrix, Red =Original) Swap mode
This mode works as follows:
On every power up the Matrix “bios” is loaded indicated by the Green LED. To switch
to the original bios the user must load a game and then press eject, at this time the
LED will turn Red indicating that the original bios is active. To switch back the user
may either turn off and on the console or repeat the above.

btw with evoX you can add a new action, "run backup" , or "run live"

In the action you can specify a "yes/no dialog box" using :
Info "tiltle of the dialog box"
warning "text in the dialog box"
warning "text in the dialog box"
warning "text in the dialog box"

It works great, you have the choice to continue booting your backup, or your original.

but I need to have more info on script with evox.
thanks in advance"

Now what I need to know is if Respected users of the community think this is the best idea or do you think a Physical switch installed is a safer option?

Please keep this thread on topic.

I just installed external switches to my matrix, quick, easy and it works great.  Very nice for flashing the bios without opening up the case to switch to mode4.  I've yet to be banned from live.

qbrandon, what is the filename of your EvolutionX dash? And, what is the name of your MS dash? With the BIOS you flash your Matrix with, the EvolutionX dash should always be that dash, or else you will never get it. So, I am assuming your EvolutionX dash is named xboxdash.xbe and you perhaps did not name your MS dash msxboxdash.xbe.

Your evox.ini looks for msxboxdash.xbe and since it can't find it, you get an error message.

EDIT: Thinking about this, if msxboxdash.xbe is missing, won't EvolutionX show MS Dashboard as red?

my matrix setup cant get much better i got the xecuter 2 f boot bios so my c and e drive are completely virginized and everything boots from the f drive with the chip on.  i even hex edited the old ms dashboard so it would work off the f drive so i could have a vigin dashboard to play with with my chip on so i wont set a flag in the live tab of the new dashboard the only way i can get to the c drive dashboard (the updated one) is to turn the chip off, so then everything is ok and i can do what i want n e way.  I took boXplorer off so i wouldnt acidently lauch the updated dashboard and go into live.  So matrix mode 3 this setup = very reliable and almost perfect setup.  O and I am using an 80GB Seagate drive. (locked of course.)

Heres what I did to fix the "your box needs servicing message" but I STILL cant get it to go into disable mode when I have evox 1.8.3285 installed to the harddrive. (and yes the drive is locked) Its booting off of evoxdash.xbe and the evox.ini points to msxboxdash.xbe to load the MS dashboard.

1) I had a virgin xbox with live installed.

2) installed matrix mod chip mode 3, flash bios is evox2.6noaniblueredv10

3) booted up xbox, got green led. opened drive, loaded demo disc.

4) opened drive, the closed drive.

5) Press eject again after disc was back in, and the matrix mod  led turned red.

6) loaded slayers evox 1.8.3285 iso cd and backed up settings.

7) ftp'd into the xbox, backup up complete xbox harddrive.

8) chose the option from evox cd that said "rebuild retail drive v1.0"

9) rebooted xbox, ftp'd in, and copied my msxboxdash.exe from the backuped files on my pc to the c drive on the xbox.
(this fixed the problem of the error message I used to get when going to the microsft dashboard)

10) inserted demo disc, powered on xbox.

11) ejected demo disc, re-loaded, then pressed eject again. STILL GREEN LIGHT!!

Any ideas????

ok first go to the usual places and get urself an f boot bios evox 2.6 or 3.6 or xecuter 2 w/e u want just as long as its f boot and will work with ur box.  You are going to have to cut the bios down to fit onto the matrix.  Use the tutorial section and find how to split a 1 meg bios to 256k.  Now dont flash ur chip yet!, first make sure u have an f drive, duh, with space at least enough space on it to put ur whole c drive onto.  Now backup your entire C folder to ur pc through FlashFXP.  After this is done ftp back the contents of ur xbox's c drive to ur the root of ur xbox's f drive so it looks like ur old c drive except it will also have ur games and apps folder and other stuff u have put on there. . Now change ur old ms dash to xboxdash.xbe if it isnt already.  Now ftp ur f boot bios that u have cut to 256k to the bios folder of wherever u have evo x installed.  Turn ur matrix to mode 4, and restart.  Now when evox loads up go to setting flash bios and pick your f boot.  It will flash and restart when done.  When it restarts it should run from the f drive.  So ftp back to ur box again, and delete everything from c and e that u wouldnt want MS to see.  Including evox and any games or apps u may have on the e drive.  Restart again, and it should boot just like normal again but ur c and e drive will be virgin!  Now if u try to go to the MS dashboard now ull get an error 21, so find the forum that discussed how to hex edit the dashboard to run from the drive.  Its really easy if u need help message me another time.  After u edit it save and ftp ur new dash to f.  Now u should have a working virgin dashboard to play with from the f drive and wont get u banned to goin into live, and a virgin c and e drive cool huh?  When u turn the chip off, u are going to the c drive which u can do whatever the hell u want cause ur chips off and f drive is gone and invidible again so its like ur box is clean.  Just make sure you dont boot a live game with your chip on and connect.  Other than that thers no way to get yourself banned.  Wow my fingers hurt from typing hope ive helped if u still need help message me.  Later guys, and happy hacking

ski- what about that pesky items.txt file that evox saves to the C partition? That could be a possible way for MS to search for a modified drive in the future. Does evox still save that under e, or does it do that under your new c folder in your f partition?

Other than that, sounds nice beerchug.gif .

QUOTE (AV998 @ Dec 20 2002, 12:43 AM)
I'm having the exact same problems as gbrandon with an near identical setup.  Virgin XBox with Live Installed, Matrix chip mode3,  evox2.6noaniblueredv10, slayers evox 1.8.3285 iso, "rebuild retail hard drive"

The only difference was I was dumb enough to not back up my original C: drive via FTP before wiping it with the "rebuild retail drive" option.  I thought the backup system settings option was good enough, but I guess not =(

I can boot games fine but I can't get the normal MS dash anymore.

When I boot a retail game (the two game disc) it loads up fine in mode3, then I eject it to turn the modchip off, but then I get an error 13 "needs servicing" error.  If I don't have my original msxboxdash.exe am I now screwed and never be able to load the MSDash or what do I need to do to get that running again?

You need to copy your original msxboxdash.xbe back to your xbox hardrive. Since you never backed up, your going to have some problems. Umm.. you cant boot up to your original msdash when you have the matrix disabled, so you are going to need to go through the tutorial about installing live with evox allready installed. Too bad you didnt have your old cdrive backed up, because you need all those files. All you would have had to do was copy them back to the xbox and it would all work. Your getting the service message when the xbox tries to load the original msdashboard because you have the wrong msxboxdash.xbe or (or if you dont have live installed, the wrong xboxdash.xbe.) If you get a good xboxdash.xbe you should be back in business. (or a good msxboxdash if you have live). If you dont have live and you get a new xboxdash.xbe, then you can simply install live (i think) and then back up your drive, install slayers evox cd again (retail hd rebuild) then copy your backed up msxboxdash.xbe back to the xbox and it will all work. If you are in a real bind maybe I can put together a .zip of my original drive for you to download.

who knows if that items.txt is really from evox i dont know, even if u run evox from the cd, on a virgin xbox that u have just put a chip into, it still has items.txt.  there should be some way if it is from evox to change the .ini but i havent found anything about it any thoughts?
