To use Xbox Live, you need to have your modchip off for the entire time.

Oh ok, then use mode 3 then. Boot a backup or whatever, let it load, and hit reset and your original onboard BIOS will load. Then, install Live and use Live, whatever. Make sure your modchip is always off when using Live. Be careful not to select any "Live" buttons, tabs, whatever when your modchip is on

Ok, did you just get your Matrix modchip? The swithes on the modchip! It's really great. Notice dipswitches on the modchip labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Put the modchip in mode 3. Your HD has to be locked too when using the original BIOS

you cant play backups in xbl if thats what you're asking

No, backups do not work on Xbox Live.
