Do's And Don'ts Of X-box Live!
« on: December 11, 2002, 04:03:00 PM »

This is an excellent idea for some of the newbs.  I hope someone with more knowledge reads this and posts the exact configurations of all chips and bios's and dash to work with Live.

i have an idea, everyone ppost dos, donts, and facts in here, then ill put them together, and the mods will post it. Ok do's:
Shut off your mod whenever you go on live, delete update.xbe and all other live files before playing backups with live, lock you drive before playing.
Dont:
Try to go on live with a backup, Screw arround with your serial and mac adress, just the hdkey
Facts:
a 6 as the first numbver of the second y code means your banned, its easy to get banned, be careful.

fuzzy said "delete update.xbe and all other live files before playing backups with live"

My question is this.

What other 'live' files are there other than the update.xbe file?

OK, I already know never to go online with anything other than a disabled mod and original game.

But, what about a game like splinter cell (which if I made a backup of would NEVER go to any downloadable content tab or live update tab, etc.).  Are there any other "live" files that you'd want to take out before burning it other than the update.xbe file?

Also, related to that, what if you were to make a backup of splinter cell for example and didnt take the update.xbe file out.  Would you be OK as long as you never hit any go live (d/l content) tab, or just the fact that its on the disc does it load the update and ban you since the mod chip would be on, or is this one of those no one is sure, 1000 different answers to this question?

I think he meant ..... delete the updates before playing ur  backs...if u have live.

NOT before playing  them "on" Live

THE SIMPLE FACT IS YOU CAN NOT PLAY BACK UPS ONLINE!!!!! DONT TRY!!!!!

Myself and others are so confused on this subject its hard to understand.

BUT one thing for sure, DO NOT go on live w/ ur MOD on or w/ a Backup

I myself have Live but not used it yet, to better understand the battleggrounds.

One point the keeps getting said three different ways from Sunday is Playing backups w/ an Updated Box. I have read both way on this one.

we need a better agreement on this subject.

                                    You cannot play backups online.

That is not what I am saying.  I am talking about a game like splinter cell which is that game that you can't play against anyone online, but you can download content when it comes out over the live service.

I dont plan on downloading any content.  So I could play it as a backup as long as I don't click on any live button.  Now refer back to my previous questions.

Yes, there is no problem playing splinter cell back up with your mod enabled. Just make sure your xbox isnt connected up to the net and away you go. The DOWNLAD CONTENT button is not highlighted if you box isnt connected, so theres no chance of you trying to download by mistake.

LOL!!

Do you see how confused everyone gets......

No one here said anyhing about playing backups online.

But I and others keep saying the same thing.

The best solution is just to buy TWO X-Boxes. (hell after 4 back ups you get ur moneys worth.)

And never need to worry.....unless u have a LAN party and leave ur modded box on ur network.......o for the love of GOD .... Im going back to my Atari 5200 no worries there...... (so one would think)
