Boot From F Patition = Live Save
« on: December 08, 2002, 03:04:00 AM »

Now, Live only check your modchip on or off. But MS may scan your harddisk later to find any unauthorized file. In this case, F boot is the only solution (since original BIOS cannot recognize F partition).

I know both EvoX new BIOS and Xecuter 4972 have hack version that can boot from F. But why 4973 can not? or it already out but I miss it?

This was done last week. 4973 F: boot with colors by kaworu17

Look in the usual places for x2_4973_err_purpleorange_fboot.zip

I made 4 of my own from 4973 stock 256k bios on 11/29/02 and 3 Evox 2.6 F-boots using "IPS's" little tutorial he gave me that helped me out big time using XBFlash.

x2_4973_v1_256k_Fboot.bin,
x2_4973_v1_err_noani_blue_256k_Fboot.bin
x2_4973_v1_err_noani_red_256k_Fboot.bin
x2_4973_v1_err__red_256k_Fboot.bin
(plus Evox versions)
EvoXV2.6V1.0.256k.Fboot.bin
EvoXV2.6V1.0err.noani.blue.256k.Fboot.bin
EvoXV2.6V1.0err.noani.red.256k.Fboot.bin

It is very easy see below:

Quick guide to modding your Bios file for F: booting

To do this you need to first get a program called xbflash. You also will need to get the RC4 key the bios was encrypted with. I will not be providing this key because its considered copyrighted material.

This uses the xecuter 2 v1.0 4973 bios as the example. This will work for all v1.0 bioses. It may or may not work with the v1.1 bioses since they are different and may need other things to get it to work.

put the bios in the directory with xbflash.

make a directory called x2-4973

edit the xbflash.ini file and put in the rc4 key.

type: xbflash -unpack xbflash.ini x2_4973_v1_256.bin x2-4973

with your favorite hex editor edit the x2-4973\xboxkrnl.img file

search for evoXdash.xbe

on the ascii side of the hex editor change the \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\ to read \Device\Harddisk0\Partition6\

optional edit the entry for neXgen.xbe to \Device\Harddisk0\Partition6\ also in case you want to use the neXgen dash when it comes out.

save the hex file don't bother to make a backup file if your program asks you cause if you do you'll just have to delete it before the next step.

repack your bios type: xbflash -pack xbflash.ini x2-4973 x2v1-4973-fboot.bin

you should now have the an f: booting bios file

superfro made a program called fanCbox and that will do the work for you plus other things (like color mods etc). I wrote this little guide because it nice to know how to do it manually if you just want to make a simple change like making it boot from the F: drive first and fanCbox doesn't support the bios yet as of 11/29/02.

The new fanCbox 050 may work but havent had a need to try it yet.  IPS also compiled XBFlash into a Windows excutable for me so I dont have to use MS-VS.  I tried getting my 7 "F" hacks and the XBFlash Windows version up on the "usual places" but I did not know who to contact; can someone point me to the right person?
