Xbox Live Playing, Divergence Detected?
« on: December 03, 2002, 09:57:00 PM »

I played a game with another player in NBA2K3. He was the host. The game started and about 5 seconds into it, the game said a divergence was detected and gameplay will stop. I hit OK and I was back to the NBA2K3 Live main menu.

What did a divergence was detected mean?

I'm assuming - so be forewarned about that whole ass-you-me thing - that a "divergence" means that your Xboxes ended up in different states. Basically, you lost connection with the host (or your packets were corrupted) just long enough for your games to go in different directions, and for some reason the game's syncronization routines crapped out, so your game aborted.

Well, either that, or there was a rip in the space-time continuum which caused a wormhole to open under the host, sucking him/her into a divergent dimension.

Either way, no big deal. :D

Sega was having this problem with thier games during the beta. I read a few times about the problem in NFL 2k3. However I didn't play 2k3 during the beta so I never ran into it. From what I read the problem could pop up on something as small as one person having the console setup for stereo and the other setup for DD 5.1. They said that it was fixed in the last patch. But even a week before Live, well um, went live I was still reading complaints about it in the beta forums. I'm sure they will fix it sooner or later though.

Yeah, andreo is right.  I was playing with some fellas that were beta testers, and they told me to turn off my dolby digital and  come back.  After I did that we played like 3 games flawlessly.

I havent got to try it lately, as I got banned like most around here
