What type of router do you have.  I have the linksys and yes one of my xbox's got banned but that was my fault.  the other works fine.  I didnt have to forward anything.

Just make sure you turn off the mod if you have one.

chris, you're wrong.  xbox live requires that you forard 3 ports to your xbox, or set it as the dmz host.  if you don't, you will get in-game connectivity problems.

Actually, I think you are BOTH right. It is only with the new Linksys Firmware that UPnP is enabled, which opens ports dynamically. If you do NOT have a new firmware (like me) then you need to open them manually, or stick the xbox in the DMZ.

Won`t the firewall protection in the router stop ms from scanning my x box?

MS (or the server) isn't lookin at your box. Your box is looking at your box, and reporting it's finding to MS. If you can USE live, you are being reported back.

I don't think that's quite right either.  UPnP support was introduced on the 8 port router after it came to the 4 port.  Verison 2.42.7.1 was the first to support it on the BEFSR81.  I am currently running the an earlier release (2.40.2) on mine.

god damn motherfuker.

i called MS and that's what they told me.  ok?   i don't have that setup, and i still connect, and it works fine for me, except i got booted from games once in a while.  for optimal performance, you need to open up 3 ports.

don't fucking give me shit.  that is what MS says about their service.

Yeah.  Everyone just believe every word that MS says without question, and ignore the thousands of people who connect without forwarding any ports, with no problems..

Jeez....
