Live And Backups
« on: November 22, 2002, 10:48:00 AM »

If I want to play a live enabled game off a backup, just for the purposes of the single player game (I will never use it for online play)  what do I have to do?  Do I need to remove anything before I burn the game so the game doesn't run any updates, etc.

If you are going to tell me to read the threads please point me to the post that answers this.  Or even better, please just respond with the answer.

Thank you.

If it's live enabled, there's usually an "update.xbe" file present, remove that and it should cause you no problems. Also, don't hit new account in the game as well, that might screw it up too.

That's what I thought.  Are there any other files that I should look out for and remove?  Anything new to look for since this whole live fiasco started?

So then, why do you even care? You don't plan to use Xbox Live in the first place, so what's the big deal?

I do play live now.  The reason I ask this is for games like splinter cell, etc.  that I would like to play the single player campaign, but I dont really care about future downloads, etc. so I wouldn't use the live portion of it.

now, what if i don't have live w/ nothing but the chip, ie no evox or lg hdd, can i play something like a UC or MA backup in multiplayer w/ the file "update.xbe" still there and not worry about it updating my dash or flaging me for the future?

Well if the update.xbe is there on a backup, it'll probably update ur dash automatically (not too sure), so just to be on the safe side, don't include it if u don't want ur dash updated or don't plan to go on live anytime soon.  I don't have either UC or MA so when u refer to multiplayer, is that just local to ur xbox (like 3 other friends on the same box)??? If that's the case, then that mode of play has nothing to do with live and shouldn't update your dash or flag you.  Again, just dont' include the update.xbe to be on the cautious side.

so, the only way that it will update my dash is if i ask for it to go live? (which i won't) and yes i mean only 1-4 players on my xbox. i don't have UC or MA but would like to get them, only with no risk posing, that's why i ask.
thanks
