not with my method in my post.  no.

but on a standard setup, it will detect it.  the program flags your xbox, saying that you have a modchip, and will share that with the MS servers next time you connect.

as for the above post.  there are 2 things to do.  1.  unplug your network cable from the xbox.  2.  create a switch to disable the network adapter when in modded mode so you don't get your box banned.  3.  remove the xbox live update files from the cd.

basically, my method is still the best one out now, and with a little working around, it will be great.  i mean, if the games are ftp'd to your hard disk anyways, it takes just a few seconds to delete the xbox live update files.  and no CD'S can boot with the modchip installed once you edit your evox.ini file.

so yeah.  my method roxors.  hehe.  wink.gif

DO NOT DO WHAT OMIKRON JUST SAID IN THE LAST POST.  YOU WILL BE BANNED!!

when the files are installed on your system, it will detect a modchip, and make a note of it on your hard drive.  EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE NET AT THE MOMENT.  then, the next time you connect to xbox live servers, the info on whether you had a modchip will be sent to xbox live.  THIS WILL HAPPEN EVEN IF YOU REMOVE YOUR HARD DRIVE.

ONCE IT CATCHES YOUR MODCHIP EVEN ONCE, REMOVING IT WILL NOT HELP!!!

conclusion:  be warned!!

I thought that if the modchip is switched OFF (or mode 3, for matrix users), the modchip is essentially invisible.

beaurito, with current detection methods, it appears that matrix with mode 3 will work fine.  i just am too worried about it since the chip is still physically connected to the board, and we don't know what detection methods xbox will come out with later on.  so i just made up this method to be 100% i don't get fucked up.

as for omnikron.  are you there every minute to protect your xbox?  someone could smash it with a hammer!

you know what?  i don't care to argue with you.  fine.  your method is awesome.  you do that.  all mine does is prevent people from going out and buying a 2nd xbox to use for xbox live.  but i'm not here to compete with you.

one last thing though.  you control what programs are on your evox menu.  if you feel threatened by boxplorer, take it off.  it is YOUR job to protect your xbox.  by removing file explorer programs, and deleting xbox live files from your backup up games, you have a full-proof system that can not be banned.  even with future modchip detection methods, because this method works like having 2 separate xbox's.

this is going to be my last post in this thread.  if anyone has questions about my method, ask in my thread, if you have questions about this method, ask here.

wait, you mean that an xbox live enabled game has the same files as the xbox live starter kit on it???????

holy SHIT!  are you serious??

if that's the case, i guess if someone could make a switch to disable the network adapter in modded mode would be good.

                                    Yes he is serious.

This is why I warned you about this in your thread.

QUOTE (Omikron @ Nov 21 2002, 06:40 PM)
This does grow tiresome.

All of the current BIOS's AUTOMATICALLY boot from the cd if it is in the drive when you boot up.  Remember when you initially installed the dashboard?  You booted from the cd.  Your method requires that you sacrifice functionality for security.  It shouldn't have to be that way.  You should be able to do anything you want and not have to worry about being banned.  A combination of my method and your method would provide TRULY two xboxes within one.  Your method still uses the same EEPROM for both modes.  If the switch switches between eeprom1+nomod+original drive and eeprom2+mod+swapped drive then the method is inherently superior to yours.  A simple hard drive switch still requires proper management of all the possible screwups.  While that is fine for all the competent people in here, accidents can still happen.  I am not denouncing your theory.  I am simply stating that your method is incomplete, as my original method was.

AFAIK your idea while good, isn't feesible because the EEPROM is not really a seperate standalone chip that could be remapped like the bios.

Rather it is a "device" that is integrated into the MCPX.

Stealing it's I/O becomes rather difficult let alone masking it off electrically which may be impossible.

I saw several diagrams showing the EEPROM to be in fact a separate chip, between the TSOP and the PIC.

Heh, then this is all doable!

I love it.

An XBox Live MOD EEPROM CHIP!

I very doubt this will work.

Do you forget your hdd is locked based on the eeprom you have?

I am very curious how will you swap your hdd password

huh.gif

so much for a genius  jester.gif

I was under the impression that the mod ignores the HD password.  If it does not. I guess you will have to also switch between drives.  The fact remains that this method will prevent your idiot friends from banning you by accident.

Well the mod will start an hdd with the correct password or one without password. But since the second eeprom has a different password, the bios (original or modded) will not be able to issue the right password. So you will have to switch hdd...

For all those trouble....why not buy a second xbox?  ph34r.gif

Just switching VCC should do it.

so, hey, omikron, you're saying that you just remove the eeprom and you don't get banned anymore?

this is quite amusing.  though if it works like this, it could be detected, i don't think MS would do anything since they just want to stop modchip users.

no?  anyways.  sounds cool.  opjose, can you verify?

dalailama, with the right software (soon to be out you can change the HD key to match the other on within the eeprom) Just make sure you dont set the online key correctly (Make something up so it wont allow a conection) or you will ban it anyways.

You cannot just remove the eeprom since it is required to boot the xbox with all bioses except the developer bios. No eeprom results in a dead xbox.

anyways.  where would you be able to OBTAIN 2 eeprom chips, and what do you program them with?  i mean, what info do you put in them?  don't you have to copy it over from another xbox?

What he is trying to do is only use the valid eeprom to boot without a mod chip into live. When the switch is fliped it loads the mod and a spoofed eeprom that wont allow a connect or a ban to occur.
