                                    No, there is.

The "Online" key is used to authenticate the Xbox. Once the Xbox's serial is banned the Online Key is not even used.

Prior to the ban, the serial is accepted then the online key is verified against the serial.

ALL THREE items MUST be in sync, so to speak.

I Disagree Opjose..

We successfully signed on to XBOX Live with the following in an eeprom:

Random Changed Serial Number (Generated)
Random Changed MAC Address (Generated)
Online Key from a banned xbox's eeprom
HDD Key from an non-banned xbox's eeprom

Everything worked 100%, no problems !! As you can see the 4 things are NOT related at all !

We then changed ONLY the HDD key to a different banned xbox's HDD Key and we got "XBOX LIVE NOT FOUND"

Then We changed JUST the hdd key back to the good non-banned XBOX's hdd Key and again we were 100% working !!

So the conclusion..  (as we stated before)

THE BAN IS BASED ON FIRST 48 BYTES OF THE EEPROM !!  A.K.A THE HDD KEY ETC....

                                    Well damn, that is encouraging!

It CAN'T be this easy can it?

So you threw the HDD key from another machine into your banned one and wham, no more ban.

If so we know that the Live key, mac and serial are unattached.

But there must be some mechanism to verify the HDD key.

I can't believe that we could somewhat randomly generate new HDD keys... (it would be somewhat amazing if true).

However wouldn't this require us to UNLOCK the drive, install a new EEPROM HDD key, then use Evolution-X to figure out the new password that the Xbox will generate for that drive?

Finally pull it out yet again relock and re-install.

Man I hope all we need is the HDkey

I see the biggest pain in the ass being the removal unlock replace dance with the HD. Is there not any software we can use to lock and unlock from within the xbox without removing the HD.

How difficult would this be?

This sounds like I could swap the drive out for another one.  Re-install LIVE (which will update the eeprom) and it will work.  Can it be that simple?

Here's looking forward to playing online sometime soon!!

The work you guys are putting in is VERY much appreciated!!  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CAn someone explain the difference between the HDD key and the key used to lock and unlock the HD?  Because the HDD cannot be stored on the HD, and you can switch HD's with no problem what so ever.  So the HDD key must not have anything to do with the actual HD.  What is the HDD key used for?  have you tried generating a HDD key instead of just inserting one from a banned Xbox?

Man I wish the "how do I" newbies would stay out of this thread as this doesn't belong here!

CaliSurfer008 take it elsewhere!

This are discussing the hows and whys, not for "general" consumption yet.

HDD Key is a 16 Byte piece of data that sits in your EEPROM and it is unique per XBOX.  This HDD Key is RC4 Encrypted.. and once you decrypt this Key you use it to generate your HDD Password..

So,
1. HDD Key gets Decrypted from eeprom
2. HDD Passwd gets generated from this decrypted key, your HDD Serial and Model number by doing a HMAC SHA1 hash of all three..

Have you tried selecting a randomly generated HD key?
Or just modified a single digit and used that?

Frozen is a state which the factory puts the drive into.

It's unlikely that it actually is frozen.

Remember that often a bad report to ATAPWD indicates a drive is frozen when it actually is not.

Are you SURE you are doing things using EXACTLY the same steps you did before?
