The HDD Key must have been used since before these latest security updates. I performed almost these same exact steps to come to my conslusion about the HDD Key as stated in my thread.

It's just a matter of time before MS starts banning XBox Live accounts.

Thats Right folks !! We have done it.. We could tonight successfully change the XBOX Serial Number and MAC Address to something we wanted and the XBOX LIVE Network Dash picked the changed Serial number and MAC Address up !!!!

So, how did your change your Serial Number and MAC Address to something you wanted to get yourself online?

Again, I would exercise caution here.
As AnonymousCoward points out, MS have probably been taking logs of IP vs account vs serial number - and could start banning accounts.
I'm sure MS realised that people would successfully manage to change the serial number and get onto Live. Perhaps we can expect a new "Update" from them soon. What we need to ensure (and someone probably has already done this) is that the XBLive does not store a copy of your EEPROM for later inspection by an "update" - we really NEED to ensure this is not the case. Otherwise this is just a timebomb - and I'm sure that this time your ACCOUNT would be banned.
Other than that, respect due.

That would be correct, but this doesn't mean that his post is B.S.

I was assuming that they took care of the Live Key and header changes (as well as CRC's) which would be required to do this.

I had already tried changing serial numbers and macs to no avail.

While caution is warrented, I would not be too overly concerned about this yet.

XBlive was designed so you COULD "travel" with your account from one Xbox to another as often as you want.

It already deals with multiple logins from different machines at the same time. So this is not problematic for M.S.

A change in this basic part of the design would mean a BIG change for them, far bigger than the actual mod chip detection business.

Maybe if we are lucky this will make them come to their senses and use the far more reasonable in game Live lockout (E.G. you only have to use an original and/or switch off your mod chip) than what they are doing now.

In effect their own sucess tends to fuel the fire, so to speak.

Also comparing the EEPROM's after the fact is not really a good solution for them. Reformat, reflash, and you xbox is "brand new" as far as the service is concerned.

Well if you tried this with a banned eeprom image you would see that you would still be banned. The serial and Mac address are not what are banned. The ban is on the HD key and generated online key that is based on a RC4 encription. Changing the serial or the mac will have no effect on the ban.

                                    No you are wrong.

I've done this very thing.

I've taken an EEPROM image from an unbanned system to a banned one, and the banned machine now works fine.

Of course the mod chip precautions come into play too after doing this.

MANY other people have done this after I posted this all with sucess.
