I beleive the one guy posted he talked to a representative at a game convention and the guy said its a 3 stage process.

1st - modchip blocks

2nd- harddrive Detection

3rd- IP banning  (which i dont see the point since u can change ur Ip easily)

So its gonna suck if u guys figure out the modchip hack, then all the sudden u gotta hack the harddrive detection. work just piling up

I haven't seen anything to indicate that hard drive detection is in the code at the moment.

Additionally I do have a modded xbox which is still working fine with XBLive and a replacement 120g LOCKED hard drive.

However to keep it from being "banned" I've had to totally avoid bringing up the M-icrosoft Dash with the mod chip turned ON.

So I have Evolution-X's "drop to MS dash" totally disabled, instead it points back to itself.

This has, so far kept the machine running since day one. It's the only modded one which is still online.

They will not block IPs - they WILL start to close accounts though. We haven't seen this yet, I suspect the first ones to encounter this will be those people generating funky packets - if they can link it to their account. This could start to become an even more expensive hacking hobby !

This presents a special problem to M-icrosoft since IP's can be doled out dynamically by the ISP.

It is unlikely that we will see this, other than a last ditch effort on their part.

Account blocking if a lot of suspicious activity is detected, is far more likely.

Also remember that until they start seeing a lot of fixes and activity on the boards, newsgroups and web pages, they are very prone not to notice anything at all.

So the "noise" level has to hit a certain threshold, before they take action.

Of course a nice EEPROM "reprogramming" utility could also force things to go in exactly the other way. Once this causes too much grief, they may have to backtrack...

Ah, wishful thinking...

i suggest you install both a modchip and a hard drive switch.  then you can switch between the virgin box status (with xbox live) and your large hard drive with modchip (which you should NOT install xbox live on)

if you do this, you can easily access anything, and not have to worry about messing anything up either.  to learn about a hard drive switch, look at the tutorial for the 411gb project.

good luck!

                                    I've done something similiar.

It doesn't work.

Once the Xbox is "blocked" it remains that way.

no, opjose, i meant before it's blocked.  that way the chip won't ever be detected because you'll have xbox live installed on your original hard drive, and use that only without the modchip!

so, you'd be safe from live that way.  just switch mod = on, and hard = big, to play pirated games, and mod  = off, and hard = original to play xbox live.

i'm doing that right now, but without any switches.  going to manually do this each time.

i DO NOT trust just switching the matrix modchip to off mode.  i believe it will still be detected.  so i just remove it physically.  we don't know exactly how xbox live works right now, so better be cautious right now.

keep up the good work opjose!  smile.gif

Ok I buy it, but this may be more than you need to do.

The idea is to basically keep the XBox XBLive "updated" dashboard from ever starting up with the mod chip turned on.

You can do this by also using the F:\xboxdash bios chip.

Chip on: F:\ is used for EvoluionX and w/OLDER non-xboxlive OEM dashboard
Chip off: C:\ partition is used, w/XBLive dashboard

This works as as long as the hard drive is locked.

No need to keep flipping cables.

well i can answer the hard drive part.  yes.  you are correct!  biggrin.gif

                                    No not quite.

If the drive is locked there is no trouble AFAIK.

My "working" modded xbox has a 120g drive in it.

With the mod chip off, the F:\ partition is not seen by the OEM bios.

you say that once you go to the updated xbox dash with a mod chip ON, it sets a "report in" flag right??? where is this flag?  any way to turn it off??  what would formatting the hdd do?

also, with a larger hdd, you can not play on live?  is it because when the mod chip is off, you can't use a larger hdd?

sorry for being a newbie, i'm learning smile.gif

                                    It's unclear what gets changed.

I've verified that it "reports in" on the next connection and the subsequent connection(s) fail, though.

I did NOT check the EEPROM contents (though I should have, missed this one!) after a detection but BEFORE "reporting in", to see if anything was set there.

Formatting HD won't help, flag is most likely in eprom, and possible??? server side flags ph34r.gif

                                    Correct formatting doesn't help.

You can even unlock the drive and put it into a non-banned system (after locking) and it will work fine w/XBLive.

That POTENTIALLY you could safely connect to Xbox Live if you NEVER dropped to the M-icrosoft Dash with the mod chip turned on.

Ouch! No DVD's via the MS Dash, no ripped music, no setting the audio, video, etc.... nice solution on their part to force a detection.

Ultimately if the system is not defeatable, they've lost me. I have no desire to keep an unmodded Xbox around for those FEW times I decide to play XBLive.

No thanks I'll keep my money next year... billy boy.

How come I can still connect after 5 days with Matrix/M3 and I have dropped to XBLivedash numerous times from Evox with chip turned on? Not saying I connected to Live with chip on, just from Evox. Thought I'd be screwed?

Did you get the initial downloaded update?

A few people who have NOT, or who did not get it to sucessfully complete, seem to have no trouble with their mods one way or another.

Not sure exactly which update your speaking of.  I do have the updated dash.  I never used the XBLive CD tho.  I got the updated dash when I selected "New Account" from NBA 2k3.  Luckily I had read your thread about making sure the xboxdash.xbe is OEM or it would be nuked.  Its also did an update when I connected to NFL Fever the first time.  Could it be because I never used the XBL retail CD?

Normally the first time you connect to the POST launch live it tells you that your game needs updating.

It does indeed update the game, but alone with that comes the mod chip detection code or "switch", that ultimately reports in if it ever is run while the mod chip is on.
