It does indeed update the game, but alone with that comes the mod chip detection code or "switch", that ultimately reports in if it ever is run while the mod chip is on.

SO why do you think I am still ok?  ahh maybe I have never updated since the first time I dropped to the XBL dash from Evox with the modchip on.  I dont think I have played anyother new games that require an update.  So I will probably be screwed like lets say if I insert Unreal Championship (havent connected this game yet)right now and goto play?  So sys is probably on its way to be banned right? or just deal with all the games I did connect with prior to dropping that first time...

The exact mechanism that is being used is still being explored.

Once we know, for instance that it IS the online key, people can look for any code which changes it.

Yours may be a fluke or you may be doing something inadvertently that is preventing you from being banned.

Anyway until a fix is available (and it's coming!) keep away from the MS dashboard or XBLive enabled games while you have the mod chip turned on. This is the safest policy.

WintrXtrem,

at this point the detection or subsequent banning has little or nothing to do with your HDD, it's all in the eeprom... so far.

My box has been banned since a couple days before launch.  Would i be able to play on Live if i swapped in a virgin xbox hard drive and re-installed evox as long as i never played online with the mod chip on?  Thanks in advance.

                                    WintrXtrem,
Nope. Just hang in there....

Do you guys think that any fix will require a virgin xbox? If there is no chance that I can ressurect my modded xbox from being banned (which im now pretty sure it is as the connection test still! doesnt work)I might just buy a new xbox when they Drop down to $150..I might get a used one or something, and Then $100 isnt that bad. But again, if I can avoid buying a new xbox and stealing the serial then that would be great...I imagine this would be really hard to do though.

Thanks! a reply would be great!

Thanks for all the great work OPjose/Zander and others!
