If you haven't installed the Xbox live kit and have never been on line with a mod chip then you shouldn't need to do this at all. Just disble your mod or take it out before setup live

smile.gif  and then take it back when you're done with it.  You always have 30 days.

Oh wait, I didn't just suggest that.    unsure.gif

I hope a real fix comes around. XBL as a service isn't worth all  this. I am hoping the hack community comes up with a solid counter to all this.

I would like to hear Opjose's comment about this.

Yeah it worked.

I initially speculated it would, then confirmed it myself.

Now many have attempted this and it works.

Bear in mind that I intended this to POINT to a possible utility to fix the original trouble for you. (note that there is a bit more to it than that!)

E.G. a program which would read in the EEPROM, modify the serial and MAC then write it back out without the need to change the HD key.

AFAIK something like this is being tried by the Xbox assembly team.

Imagine if they indeed have a black list (I'm not convinced that this is true  yet because of the beta tester, unmodded xboxes, sniffer checks and other factors).

Imagine...

The XBox live servers would be repeatedly hit on by machines that have been "updated" to allow them in.

The MS "pool" of permitted MAC/Serial numbers would forever be rapidly decreasing. People with valid ID's would also be blocked out in droves as others "harvest" their machine identities for their game sessions.

Do this enough and any blacklist becomes totally useless for MS!

Then their best recourse would be the far more reasonable, mod chip detection in games only. E.G. your modded machine is ok, but only with original games.

The sheer force of numbers may "turn the tide.".

C'mon people, Sauron's (Billy Gates) forces have started their attack!

Seeing all this different attacks and attemps for destroying the latest MS online security system is so amazing.

There are those who are wildly saying "attack' which is pretty silly.

However I do like the idea of forcing change by the attrition caused with a working utilitity. Heh.

Already such things have happened, or why else did MS install mod chip detection?!?

An important thing I think you missed Demi was if you unlock your Xbox HD and reboot your PC and the Xbox HD is locked again, run hddisabl to turn off the security on it. Then relock with the new password (or get the new password like with I had to do and then relock)
