from my buddy royale--

you know, actually, I hope that they are just trying to ban mods right now and there aren't really server problems cause if this is their little test with banning mods and a lot of people without mods are suffering, they'd probably say "forget it, it's not worth it to block mods if it can't be 100% accurate"

opjose, who gave you that info? and why can users still connect while others can't?

                                    Duh!

It's INTERMITTENT.

The servers are being switched around as you read this.

I'll tell you when you have to really worry!

When you finally DO get a good connection in the test and find that none of your games work (after Friday). THEN and ONLY THEN --WORRY---!!!

Until then this is all a load of manure.

if you look at the friend list you will see that one guy is playing mech assault

yeah....

                                    NONE of this proves anything.

I have 5 (count em) Xboxes hooked up right now, 2 "virgin" Xboxes with accounts that have never been used on a modded system.

The other three with two other "beta" accounts that have.

NONE are working as of NOV 13 4:00am EST, no have been for the last 3 hours.

This thru two different ISP's (we've even tried keeping the Virgin boxes off ISP accounts that were used for modded ones.)

Duh, it's the servers.

opjose...I really hope you're right.

All I know is that I have two XBoxes here.  The modded one DOES NOT WORK, and the unmodded one WORKS PERFECTLY.

It sounds scary to me, but let's hope they're just dicking around for the final setup.

I thought this was a server problem - it is NOT. MS are checking for modchips, simple.
I don't care if you think they are not...they are...you are in denial.

I have a switch on my mod.
With evo 2.5 written to mod:
Mod on = live doesn't work.
Mod off = live works.

And with original MS BIOS written to mod:
Mod on = live works.
Mod off = live works.

If you don't belive me try it.

Which implies to me that MS are doing a CRC to the BIOS. This is probably done in various places in the live code. I would place a bet that a CRC is also done on the live code too!
Personally, I had no intention of using pirate games on live anyway. I suspect that this "problem" will take the scene some time to resolve, and as soon as they do, a MS live "fix" will be unsuspectingly rolled out via an automatic update! It's a lost battle already.
Face it guys, live = legal copies required.

there is definitely some kind of modchip detection. when i boot my system with the mod disabled, I can play motogp on live. when i enable the mod, I can't play motogp on live. however, the connectivity test works both with the mod enabled and disabled.

Hann is right I have many xboxes and more than one beta account availbale to me.   I have not had one problem on the unmodded boxes.   I have no trouble with the modded boxes with the mod switched off.  When the mods on - live no worky.

I also believe that there are some server issues also....but beleive it folks mod chip detection is here.

I'm glad to it will keep the cheaters out!!   I've seen tooo many online games screwed by hacks and shit.  Mod chip would for sure result in hacks.

Sure glad I put a switchy on my xecuter.

See ya on Live....

Jeez people

The RETAIL Disks point the XBLive software to the "new" servers.

But guess what, it will not "activate" until the 15th.

Until then we are sucking wind.

When MOD CHIP detection is ever implemented, you WILL see the server connection working. I'm using the same beta software that I got day one several months ago for XBLive and it doesn't connect.

There has never been any MOD CHIP issues with this older software. Now it suddenly cannot connect AT ALL!

Remember: for something to be downloaded (to prevent mod chips) a connection MUST be established long enough for an update or software xfer to occur.

This is simply NOT happening at the moment. The servers (at the old addresses) are not responding AT ALL.

It is almost indisputable that MS has learned how to detect modchips. The recent XBoxLive experience makes this very clear. I believe that MS is using the XBLive startup to scan the BIOS. And this is may not be a checksum, but a bit-by-bit IMAGE comparison. If it found a modchip, in many cases it put a hidden file on the HDD that will not allow the modded box to connect until after the launch date. (This apparently happened to me).

This is significant, because the Beta software of Motogp and Whacked! expires at the launch date, and the NEW demos must be used. Guess what! The new demos may also have modchip detection and REJECTION built into them. Trying to use the new demos on a modded box may not work. It may require you to disable the modchip. And it may do a periodic and random background check on the BIOS so that if you switch it on after the game has started it will cause the game to hang later. This has been verified by some who could connect through the dashboard but who couldn't play either the new Whacked! or motogp demos. On an unmodded XBox the new Motogp demo works fine.

And this form of protection could be used in all future games. Unlike, a PC, the XBox has some rather sophistocated encryption/decryption buit into the hardware, so the executables are digitally signed and cannot be easily modified unless you know the encryption/decryption key. This means that EVERY new game would have to be individually modified to remove the BIOS check code. On the PC, this is a piece of cake; on the XBox it may be nearly impossible.

The modchip would still allow homebrew software, Linux, modified HDDs, etc. but it would NOT allow playing games from the HDD, or from backup DVD's because the games wouldn't work with a modchip. If this is what MS is doing, piracy on the XBox is just about dead.

ok if they do have chip detection, surely tey just wouldnt stop u using live would they? if they wanted to use this to there full advantage wouldnt they device a way that it will stop u using copies rather than just not going on line?
