Is It Ok To Get Live First Then Mod?

No, it shouldn't be a problem. At the moment, XboxLive updates your xboxdash, and yours will still be intact for the update.
And whatever mod you choose by then should have a few more options for a workaround solution for whatever M$ throws at us.
