Yes it will update the dashboard because it needs to be updated just to get the XBL selection in the M$ dashboard, so you could registered with XBL. #2 the games/xbl enabled games will update the dashboard. #3 one way to tell is that you will have an XBL selection in the M$ dashboard.. Stock boxes don't have that option. Another way is that the xbl dashboard is 1.8 mb while the evox dashboard is over 2 mb. #4 it does not matter if your box is modded or not.

Is there a software version number for the M$ live Dashboard?

I've played Whacked, but I can't see anything new on my dashboard??

No new XBL related options that is...

#1 not that i know of. #2 Is Whacked the live (beta) version of that came with the liv starter kit? The retail version of live, moto GP, etc do not have a live option and will not update your dashboard.
