Xbox Live & Routers
« on: October 22, 2002, 02:20:00 PM »

I just got my live kit today, and tried getting on live, thru my Netgear RP614 Router, i have tried everything short of using the new Beta Firmware for it, it gets 3/4 on the connectivity tester meaning it will not connect thru xbox live, i have tried making the xbox the dmz and nothing works, the only way i was able to get on and make my account was to plug directly into my cable modem. Is anyone else having this problem? or does anyone know how to fix it?

i am not using a netgear but i do have a linksys. i dont have my kit yet but i have had experiences with my router. you have to set up the xbox through DMZ. i know you said you tried it but you must not have had it working correctly. you need to assign the dmz option to the internal ip address of your xbox. i hope i helped.

well, what kind of server are you running? i am running an IIS server and i DMZ through my main computer and port forward to my server. i reccommend not dmzing your server. you should port forward the ports you want to allow people to connect to on your server and then dmz the xbox.

i forgot one thing. does the router have 4 ports? one of the ports mite be bad. switch the port that it is plugged into and try again. that was the problem when i tryed to run mine through gamespy. since then every time i tried to plug something into port 2 on my router nothing has worked but if i move it to port 1 3 or 4 it works.

ph34r.gif Xbox Live uses port 88 UDP protocol, port 3074 UDP/TCP Protocol ph34r.gif

This is straight from M$ website

Your router's built-in firewall is blocking the ports required for Xbox Live.

A firewall is a security system that acts as a protective boundary between a network and the outside world by blocking network traffic on certain ports.

Connect your Xbox console directly to your modem (bypassing the router) and test to see if the problem is resolved.

If you are able to connect to the network when bypassing your router, you may need to configure your router to allow network communication on the specific ports required for Xbox Live. For Xbox Live to work correctly, the following ports need to be open:

• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074

Here is the website for further connection assistance

Routers Ports are perfectly fine, turns out stupid me had so many damn ports forwarded that the ports for live must have been included in the range.... not sure what the range live uses tho, if i find out ill post it... but thats the thing to check is forwarding   cool.gif

                                    Good catch!

It didn't even cross my mind that perhaps you were forwarding information from the ports it uses to another computer already, and so the xbox wasn't receiving it.

A good picture.. however... I don't think this has anything to do with the topic

That picture is for XBConnect software, not LIVE as the origional poster was asking for help with  blink.gif
