How Do I Get Live Working?
« on: October 20, 2002, 07:30:00 PM »

Ok, got passed that part. Now it will get to the fouth option before it won't work. (I had to clone my MAC address)

Now, how do i get further?

BTW people, I found that evox was screwing up my ip settings. I don't know if it will happen to others, but it did to me.

Error after the cables? Did you just become a beta tester? I don't think many people will be able to help you because those of us who have evox and have been beta testing Xbox Live have been avoiding this new dashboard with the Xbox Live option like the plague. I set up my Xbox Live using the first beta disc, it configured everything automatically, and it still works now. I don't know why the setup would be any different for you anyway. The Unreal beta does not work with Xbox Live though but other games do.

You had to clone your MAC address?!?
First, your not going to get much further then a connection test, if you get that far. Unless you have the key code (or whatever they call it) that comes on the live disk jacket you'll never be able to setup your account.
If you don't setup your account you can't make your gamer tag.
If you don't make your gamertag then you can't connect to xbox live.

But I'm curious as to how you have your xbox connected to the net. Do you have a router (ie; linksys, d-link, etc.) or are you using internet connection sharing ie;ICS.

The quickest way to get up and running is with a linksys router, or setup your xbox with your login information for your isp and take the plug that runs between your computer and BB modem and plug it into your xbox.

But if you don't have a beta kit then you still have another 4 weeks to read up on things before you can get on anyway.

Hey, what do you know. I had the same problem with the Evolution dash doing the same thing to my ip address also. For some reason it would change my static IP and I wouldn't be able to connect with the live service. I went back and forth between the two putting in the correct settings. After a couple of times doing this it took and it stayed fine. I've since removed the evolution dash and all files. So I don't know if the new live dash has any problems.

Yeah, same settings thing happened to me too andreo.

Ok, yeah, I had to clone my MAC address because my ISP only allows one unless I want to pay $10 more a month for another, and another, which I don't.

So, for people who can't connect, get your computers MAC address by typing in the RUN box:

winipcfg

ignore the ppp shit in the drag down box, select your network card.
Adapter address is your MAC address. Put this in your Xbox live settings to get live working/avoid paying for another computer hooked to the same line.

And yes, I have a router/switch.

Oh, I got passed it assigning itself a ip address, and I got passed the part where it gets the DNS servers, so, its the part after that. Probably because I don't have live.

Yeap that last part actually logs in to test connectivity.

That's why it's not working.

It sounds like you are all set.

BTW: I'm running live from Evolution-X using ybox and it works just great.

I'm also using it on an X-ecutor machine w/o the update.xbe files after performing the update. Same account on both. Works fine.

You might want to invest in a NAT/DHCP/FIREWALL/ Connection sharing device. You can find them for about 90.00 since you already have a router.

Then put the existing router "behind" the sharing device. XBLive works fine thru this.

This makes a lot of sense and explains a few things.
