Connect your DSL/Cable modem directly to the Xbox and turn on both.

Make sure you are connected and try again.

After you have established an account try putting everything back again.

Tried what?

A direct connection should work no matter what.

Set the Xbox to get an address via DHCP and check to see what it gets.

Also check it again in the XBLive panel and verify connectivity.

If it says that connectivity is good, you should be able to register.

uyes im a beta tester..yes it says i have connectivity and no it will not work. i tried staright to the cable modem several different times. it refuses to even connect when i go straight through. i am on the best home cable isp. Optimum Online..never had any problems...until xlive. winroute pro is what i was running before. now im running wingate pro. it works great gettng my xbox to connect to the net i have people who have pinged me fine from far away, but xlive just keeps saying not responding.....

now i tried turning off my modchip, deleting evox files..etc..nothing works....i may try going through my mom's dsl connetion tonight...

ok this thing is pissing me off but some progress....heer i am on the phone with my isp and ms, and the ms rep keeps saying to get my ppoe settings..i say theer are none..she says yes there are..i say no..my isp says no..anyway he tells me what ive been trying all weekend...and it works..i create my acount fine. ms and i are both happy even though the ms rep didnt do anything to help...

now i put in the game..and it loads to where i can start a game etc...as soon as i go to start the game it shits on me...then i go back and turn the system on and off..it wont connect again..friggin ms...same problem..everything i sonnected fine, but live wont respond...

get your mac address and place that in your xbox live's mac address.

go start-run
type in winipcfg
select from the drop down box your network card (not ppp)

you adapter address is your mac address, put it in your xbox.

As was correctly surmised (though not properly stated) one common problem is the MAC address.

Since the PC is "authorized" in your ISP's MAC table you may have to adjust your Xbox's MAC address via the Live Control Panel to correspond to what your PC's is.

This way the ISP sees your Xbox as authorized to communicate via the cable modem/dsl.

Most newer providers are moving away with MAC authorization tables though and this will not be a problem for most people.

Some routers (CISCO!) are known to block the ports used by XBLive. This is documented in the XbLive Beta Forums.

If your ISP is using one of the routers which block XBLive, you'll have to get the info from the XBLive Beta page and hit your ISP with it.

They will need to change or update the firmware in the router to stop this.

no worries i fixed it. ended up just uninstalling evrything....unplugging my cable modem and pc for like 30 minutes. run network setup for all my connections then restart..turn on modem and xbox. tadah...
