Currently my Evox dashboard file is named evoxdash.xbe and the original ms dash is named msxdash.xbe do i need to make any changes?

                                    Changes for what?

To avoid problems with XBLive?

If so, yes. The MSDash.xbe needs to be renamed back to xboxdash.xbe.

I'm also assuming that you are using the .evox Evol bios right? That is in place of the ybox?

You still didn't answer my questions!

If you want help please do so.

Do you see the "flubber animation"?

Do you see a BLUE "XBOX" screen immediately AFTER the flubber?

Which mod chip do you have a Matrix?

How are the switches flipped?

If you press the Xbox's "ON" switch to turn it on, what color logo do you see after the animation?

If you press the Xbox's "EJECT BUTTON" to turn it on, what color logo do you see after the animation?

Remember: Please answer ALL of these questions.

Background: Evox and Enigma chip. Using DVR-RW and CR-RW. Original and burnies have worked fine and well and Halo on the HD(no lag/loading awesome)

I have been reading this thread and it seems I have the reverse problem. I recently had a friend over to show the new Xbox Live Football game. I recently got that update disc, but after playing Halo so much the heck with football. Anyway I accidentally grabbed the update disc and popped it in the Xbox. Nothing seems to be happening. It just hung there. I opened the Xbox took the cd out not thinking much of it. I put in the Football game, rebooted and Evox dash came up. I rebooted again. No MS dash just evox.

I tried a different game, Took the cd out a few times, tried unplugging it, tried and original game, no matter what I do I can't get the MS dash to come up.

In Evox dash I have the option to return to MSdash. I tried it. The screen goes to ms dash...I hear the Xbox trying to read the cd...it gives up and right back to evox dash. Weird. I ordered a new hd and it will probably be here tomorrow. I like loading games into the HD anyway. No discs, no loading, but it ticks me off that I can't get the regular dash up again.

I know it can read the cd because I ftped the Xbox and was able to see the files on the D drive. Oh well. Anyone having this problem or is my DVD rom just shot!

Thanks

SHEEZ

Haven't you seen my frequent rants about how Xbox Live "nukes" your dashboard?

Guess what? You got "nuked".

All the answers you seek can be found by using the search feature or looking at the PINNED threads.

I really hope you backed up your C: drive!!!!

I switched off my Xtender and switched/swapped the dashboards back to normal, but M$ busted me anyway.  Maybe because I had multiple .xbe's on my drive (2 different dashboards and boXplorer).  I took them off and still no go.  The .xbe's are my prime suspect as why I couldn't connect.  One of the flash solder points is connected also, the other (topside) has a switch on it (which was open).  I tried everything but no go, maybe the disk (original Live disc--did not update dash) put a red flag on my HDD.  nothing new or recently altered showed up, though.

My brother's XBOX (unmodded) connected with no problem.  In the end I just bought a new XBOX for XBL.  It sucks but it's not a big deal.

I hate coming into the MIDDLE of a conversation like this!

If you have backed up your C: drive previously you can undo the damange.

Rename the Evol-X dashboard, then copy back your ENTIRE C:\ drive.

Reboot. You should then be in the old MS dashboard.

Run the update again.

Reboot from the hard drive and check the update was done.

Boot from the Evolution-X cd, and rename the dashboards.

Then FROM now ON, NEVER let the dashboard update run.

Never run a "live" game unless you have first removed the update.xbe file from it.
Never "add" a new account from withing a game.

I appreciate the reply and I don't want to offend anyone, but I'm not here be told I messed up. That is obvoius, but for those of us that didn't back up. Can anything be done or reversed. has anyone experimented yet. Or analyed what was changed to maybe change it back.  I just wanted to add my experiences to help the smarties come up with a solution.

And I will search the other threads.

I did see a solution in the other thread that posted about replacing the ms dash.  It just confused me when you said it alters other things besides the msdash. Oh well time will tell if it matters. I will try that. I guess this really shouldn't affect you if you use the hd for games.

So far I have been playing Gamespy...far better than XBL for the time being. Halo is awesome.
Thanks for the info nonetheless.

When restoring from a back up do you need also to replace the E drive contents or can you get away just with restoring only on c:

?

thanks

i have a friend that updated his xbox with the update in nba2k3 just like me, and all it did for both of us was made us reupload the evox dash to the c drive after booting up from a cdrw

then you said that if you did the update again in a different game...it would take it's toll, so we tried that in the new game called whacked that you said would nuke the box, and after we went to do the live update in that game, all it did was tell us that our xbox is up to date....and it did no harm

so far, i haven't ran into anything that sounds like you've been saying about "nuking" the xbox

did i read your posts wrong again or what?

It's not that you messed up, it's that even though I've been warning everyone, you didn't listen. And for that you doubly deserve a SHEEZ.

And yet another one for that reply.

YES you messed up.

Yes you didn't read it correctly.

If the updated xboxdash.xbe is sitting on your C:\ drive, then the update will do no harm.

Any game or program can subsequently run the update. The update program will merely look at the xboxdash.xbe and not update it again, or it can, and everything will be fine.

The problem occurs when you have renamed the MS dash to say msxboxdash.xbe and then EVOLUTION-X's dash to xboxdash.xbe.

NOW when the update is executed, it tries to run yet again, because it doesn't recognize the evolution-X dashboard.

During the update process it changes something on the drive that makes the MS Dashboard no longer work.

You would still be able to boot to the Evolution-X dash, but the MS dash will always fail to load, even if you replace it.

At this point the only way to get the MS dash back is to restore the entire disk from a backup.

It may be that you only need to restore one or two other files, as well, but I do not know which ones are affected.

No nothing seems to be done to e:\ by the "nuking" and you need not touch e:\
