Have you tried playing with the XBOX wired to the pc? Usually the wireless setup is a wireless PC with an xbox wired to it, I would strongly suggest trying that as I don't believe your setup will work for anything but XBL, you also may want to try XLINK, I don't believe they support the setup either, but may be worth a shot, as not everyone has a PC right next to their xbox.  

Also try changing all the settings on the xbox to Auto, make sure you don't have anything specified in there for XBL settings.
