System Link Via Vpn Tunnel
« on: March 19, 2004, 02:01:00 PM »

My buddy and I bought two Linksys BEFVP41's to flatten our networks. I am using 192.168.100.* and he is using 192.168.1.* internally.

The tunnel is up and running and we have access to each other's shared resources. However, the Xbox's do NOT see each other when attempting to run a System Link game of Halo.

All of the links that used to have instructions on setting up VPN for System Link are dead.

Is the fact that the two (actually five) boxes do not see each other because we are on different subnets?

Are their any concerns if we both use the same subnet internally (being careful not to duplicate IP's)?

I've been thinking of trying the same thing... Me and my friend have the same subnets, I'll try it ASAP

I will be restructuring my network this week and making another attempt at the x-box link this week (hopefully). I have been dreading this do to the fact that I have, a 2000 server, a xp pro gaming system, 2 laptops, 3 x-boxes, a wireless router, a vpn router, and a printer server, all configured with the current subnet (not to mention all of the configuration files on the modded box).

i dont think a simple vpn is going to work, considering that xboxs use 0.0.0.1 in system link mode, and most routers ignore this.
