Got bored yesterday, so I converted one of the 4 wire (3 black rings on mini plug) headsets from my old Nokia phone into on that will work on live.
Here is the headsetJust in case anyone wants to know, here are the specs of the miniplug in relation to the wires. You may want to test your own to assure these don't change.
Tip-RED
2nd ring-G
3rd ring-Brown
4th ring-Green/Red twisted wire
You only need the first three, since the XBL "puck" only has a two ring mini jack.
To convert, cut the wire just after the mini plug, and strip the insulation. Place a drop of solder on the VERY end of each of the mini wires. Solder the red wire from the plug to the green wire going to the earphone. Solder the green wire from the miniplug to the brown wire going to the earphone. Solder the brown wire from the minplug to BOTH the red and green/red twisted wire going to the microphone/earphone. Tape the green/red twisted wire from the mini plug out of the way (it is not needed). Tape each of the connections away from each other with electrical tape, or use shrink wrap.
Wallah! You have an alternative to the XBOX communicator, which is much easier to lie down with.
Hope this helps someone.
Peace.
