Xbconnect With No Computer.

It would be an interesting idea but wouldn't be very feasible. Most people on Xbconnect seem to quit their servers like 15 minutes after making them  rolleyes.gif  and having to reset your game each time to find a new server would be frustrating.

WTF I messed up that post. But whatever you know what I meant  laugh.gif And if you didn't ... you're really stupid  tongue.gif

Well, you were the one thinking about this idea...which isn't possible. Tell me how I can maintain TWO software programs running at the same time on the Xbox.

don't worry guys...shanafan's just a fruitcake that thinks he's the king of xbox live information.

as for your idea, unfortunately it wouldn't work.  what you're saying is that you want 2 programs to be running at the same time on the xbox....as if it were an os.  that can't be done.

a good alternative is xlink in WGN mode ...
you do need computer to start program ... but once started...
just go to xbox and start multiplayer game ...and if any xlink games are their you will see them.
It would be nice if xbconnect gets this feature ... because one of my xbox's is in other room ... and I hate having to go to pc to join rooms.
The downside is  Xlink is not that popular ...and when I did Poll to seperate LIVE and System link Tunneling into 2 rooms ... our GOOD Friend Shanafan Fought me ALL the WAY ... even when i went to Suggestion Room ...  Even though the POLL was for the Seperation by about 70 percent ... they are holding off doing it at this time.
But if they did do it! smile.gif
We could hopefully get a lot more people on XLINK and start games from XBOX instead of PC! smile.gif
XLINK and Xbconnect get drowned out in this Multi-ONLINE room ... because 99 percent are on LIVE... but if we had Seperate room ... us guys with Hard Drive and Mod chip ... can Do some serious gaming on xlink and xbconnect.  On Sunday when i was on xlink ... only 3 persons were on it !  That sucks!
WE can thank Shanafan for Being So VOCAL in keeping ONE all in one ONLINE room!
thanks Shanafan!

That's gh3y . . . I thought it could be done in the bios  uhh.gif. But since you're saying running two programs on the xbox  can't be done. Is there any possibility it could be done for those who have upgraded RAM?  biggrin.gif  Cause if all the xbox games need to run smoothly is 64 MB RAM. And you upgraded to . . . lets say 256 or so. You'd be able to run that app in the backround of your game . . . . Right?    rolleyes.gif  I think people would upgrade their RAM if these could be done smile.gif

nopers.  the only memory upgrade is to 128mb with some samsung ram sticks (where you take the actual ram pieces off the ram stick and etc..)

anyways, it's not that there's no ram, it's just that running 2 programs at once requires an OS.    xbox doesn't really have an os.  and that's what lets it play some great games with such little cpu.  it's the whole 'management' problem.  if the 2 programs needed to communicate, there'd need to be a 3rd one that would be the 'middle man'.  the 'middle man' is called an OS.  so no, it just won't/can't work.

We would have to just place a NEW improved LIVE software in each game directory! smile.gif

... for each game we get directed to IP address that specializes in the ONE game!  ...another way to cut down of Server OVERload.

We would then play LIVE games on it ... on private server.

it's an idea! ... and since LIVE is only 7 or 8 months old ...and Europe didn't have it for a number of those months ...  I am thinking the European Hackers will probably figure it out! smile.gif

xlink sees all the games from xbox in WGN mode ... if 4 or 5 rooms are in halo ... you see all of them and pick you room you want to join.
Then restart different game ... and all rooms show up for that game too.
That's why i wish we HAD seperate ROOM here so we could post PIN ups and get alot of interest in it!
Xlink gets buried here in this ROOM ... but a dedicated room would allow alot of people to hear about it ... show link to get software, and set up advanced times to play ,ect...
Again there are 500,000 people playing LIVE
There are 500 playing xbconnect (90 percent HALO
and 3-6 playing  xlink!

So we need to make seperate room ... this would benefit everyone!     even Shanafan ... if he says he has nothing AGainst xlink and xbconnect ... he could prove it ... by supporting the IDEA .    IT's just lip service for Shanafan ... or he would have understood why I was PUSHING the System LINK Tunneling room IDEA!
ONE reason!  Get more people on XLINK and xbconnect playing all the system link games! PERIOD!

Hi folks..

I'm TheDaddy from xlink..

Here's a very early update on xlink for the xbox itself.. At the moment, we are working on making our own dash which will allow you to see ppl who are in WGN mode and see what games they're playing - then choose what game u wanna play and play. At the moment, it doesnt do anything about actually routing the packet data - you still need the PC in WGN mode.. Hopefully, soon we are gonna be able to get the whole xlink UI running on the box itself - as a dashboard.. so you can move between rooms / messenger / WGN mode and use a keyboard to type etc.. Although you would still need your PC to be on with xlink running......

There may be a way to route the packets, but it would require a modified BIOS .. Sadly, a new dash cant do it - dashes are just programs like anything else..

If anyone from any of the BIOS crews sees this, drop me a line at [email protected] - I reckon I have a plan, but need some technical help from you guys...

Anyway, I'm off to continue RC2 (which btw will now fully support homebrew games - like the excellent DoomX and Duke3D ports by lantus), as well as a load of fancy new features - including (hopefully) the XLinkDash software for the xbox itself..

Cheers

TheDaddy
