Look some more, there are tuts on replacing the hard drive.  Yes, the new hard drive totally replaces the stock drive so nothing will 'stick out'.

Theres a pile of stuff on this.

Just a couple:

Installing a new HDD:

Locking your HDD:
http://www.xbox-scen...es/lock-hdd.php

Basically, you dont need to lock the hard disk unless you want to go on live or use the xbox without the mod for some other reason.
