Kola Cell And Splinter Cell On A Modded Xbox

LEVEL CAN WORK ON BOTH XBOXES, READ BELOW POSTS

Following the tutorial here to turn your modchip off, connect to Xbox Live with the retail CD of Splinter Cell. Download Kola Cell level.

After the download is complete, start the new level by going to Start Game, then go to Levels, and Kola Cell will be at the bottom. Load the level. When it is done, you can either play it, or turn your Xbox off.

Then, turn your modchip back on, and turn your Xbox on. Run your backup of Splinter Cell and load Kola Cell the same way you did before.

Remember, you first have to load Kola Cell with the retail CD just ONCE for the level to work on a backup on the specific Xbox.

Credit to Vaporstone for confirming this.

For now, it is not possible to transfer this download to another Xbox for it to work on that Xbox. Downloads from Live are specific to the Xbox they are downloaded from. Unless a patch comes out, this is the only way to play Kola Cell on a modded Xbox.

Kola Cell And Splinter Cell On A Modded Xbox

Tonight I did a test with this download. I put in my friend's upgraded HD from his modded Xbox into my modded Xbox. I booted retail Splinter Cell CD and downloaded Kola Cell. I then removed his HD from my Xbox and put it back in his Xbox. But, when I ran the retail CD, the download DID not show, even though it showed on my Xbox when his HD was in. I checked out the MS memory dash and sure enough, the download was there. I ran the backup and again, no luck in running the level.

BUT

Then I did a backup of my EEPROM on my modded Xbox that the level works fine on. I used Configmagic and updated the non-level working Xbox with the new EEPROM and the level worked!

Credit to desertboy for suggesting this idea

But, I really would not suggest this if the other person may plan to use Live in the future because having the same EEPROM out there might result in both of you getting banned.

That sounds possible unless they added another type of way to keep it from getting on another box that we have yet to see. ph34r.gif

OXM magazine says it will have a booster disc for Splinter Cell within the next couple months.

darylzero, that I would like to see.  THey said they where going to but I think its all proving to hard for the lazy sods over at OXM.

Lets hope they do though... wink.gif

How are they lazy? OXM is the official Xbox magazine. MS wants people to buy Live for the Kola Cell, not go buy a 7 dollar magazine to get it.

Now that we know it is EEPROM dependent, we know that somewhere in the downloaded level EEPROM data is stored somehow.  Could that data be Hex Editted to change what EEPROM it is looking for?  Then we wouldn't need to change the EEPROM on our Xboxes, just the EEPROM data in the downloaded level.

This might work but I'd think M$ would be able to do some sort of crc check to make sure you've not changed the eprom (Or anything at all for that matter)

The people at OXM aren't lazy, the magazine is just crappy.  Expect Kola Cell in the July 2003 issue.

hmmm... eeprom dependent...  What about the Live account?  Can I borrow a live account from a friend, install the Kola level on my unbanned XBOX, then play it without the account?
