If your HD is locked and your modchip is off, you can play on Xbox Live. Live works just fine for me, with my locked 120 GIG HD and my Matrix in mode 3

Do you need to "lock" or do anything phsically to the original 8 gigger?

Or just eject into mode 3 to original bios and go play?

Unless you unlocked the original HD, it is locked by default. Mode 3 and you are good to go
