Bios Update Help!
« on: May 13, 2004, 12:23:00 PM »

OK. I have an Aladdin Advanced 32, and i THINK that it has the M7 bios currently installed. Now. What i want to know, is can i now reflash the bios (256kb) with the latest Xecutioner bios. I have downloaded both the 4983.06 and 4983.67 bios .bin files. These are both 256kb in size, so i'm hoping it will be ok.

What i want to know, is first of all, can this Chip (aladdin advanced 32) be reflashed, and if so, will it accept those two bioses. If it can then will i be able to just copy those .bin image files to the c:\bios folder and flash it straight through EVOX?

WILL I LOSE ANY OF MY FILES???????????

If it goes wrong, will it mess up the XBOX or just the CHIP?

What are the chances of success and chances of failure?

Thanks Guys.

Aidy

Well i'm wanting to put in a new 200gb hard drive, accept the M7 bios doesn't accept this. I am aware that i can modify it to accept the larger hard drives, but i would like to get a new BIOS anyway, as my IGR isn't working, when yet all of the setting on EVOX are set to enable it.

If you dont recommend flashing through EVOX, then do i burn it onto a cd. Could you give me the link to a full tutorial with my version of the aladdin advanced.

Cheers

Flashing with evox is fine.  Just make sure your evox disk has the flash chip/tsop option on it  You may have to edit your evox.ini file and reburn the cdrw with the added 4983 bios and rckey data.  Should look something like this:  Follow the GREEN COLORED LINE

PUT YOUR BIOS NAME INTO quotations

ROM = "4983",0x123456789abcedfghijklmn (ETC.)

If you dont know the rckey data use xbtool (found on xbox scene) and then open your bios and the rckey data should look similar to the bottom data here.

You should have no problem flashing then, since your modchip will have a generic flash chip that is equivilant to the chips found on the xbox.  Just make sure your edited line has the same format as listed below.

ROM      = "EvoX M7",0x93db270779f5b964f50be075a5d5d2d2

P.S. make sure you are using a proper sized file for your chip.  I.E. dont try to flash a 1mb file onto a 256 bank.  The rc key data will be different for the size of the bios file.

please inform me.  Whats the reason why it is not reccomended??  If you dont know why, would you post some random unknown knowledge that you dont have.

Makes no sense to post on a fourm of whats proper and not proper if you dont know the reason why nor have a solution to provide

Heres a nice little tutorial that works well with LPC mods.  I suggest you read it.

Thanks guys. That tutorial says "Only Xodus/Matrix and X-ecuter2 can be flashed via xbox software" sounds like the bios files. but then it says "All other LPC mods (X-ecuter , OpenXbox/PC-BioXX , Pandora2) can NOT be flashed directly via evox." Those all sound like mod-chips. I'm confused.

Is it saying that it can flash the XEcuter2 bios through EVOX, or is it saying that i can't flash my mod-chip through EVOX???????

You can flash it through evox.  Go and give it a try. Lpc mods are all the same.  They work off the same principle.  All of them have the same model of connection to the motherboard.

All a modchip is an extra storage bank for a bios file. nothing more.
Major difference between makes, are the pretty functions they have,

Can't i just put the BIOS.bin file into the c:\bios folder, and flash it straight from there. Do i have to make a new EVOX CD, cos it would be a lot easier if i didn't have to.
