Authentication Packets
« Reply #1 on: December 25, 2002, 01:59:00 AM »

What I mean is that the authentication packets remain somewhat FIXED for each Xbox.

E.G. as long as you are using a particular Xbox the packets being sent back and forth -SEEM- to be fairly similiar EXCEPT for the time based changes.

If we knew the authentication algorythm a bit, it would be possible to spoof the server.

E.G. the Xbox's MOD chip reporting could be prevented.

The basic problem is that we do not know the encryption keys.

Linux already has code and mechanisms to intercept and repackage packets, so it's a natural platform for this.

With the source code being readily available it would surpass any hardware "router" solution (which would be EXTREMELY difficult at best) to do something like this.

And before everyone jumps off the deep end, -NO- there is CURRENTLY no way to do this.
