Dropping To Ms Dash Question.
« on: December 05, 2002, 02:25:00 PM »

1.)  I have read people say if you drop to the ms dash with the mod chip enabled you are banned.

2.)  I have read people say if you drop to the ms dash with the mod chip enabled as long as the cat-5 cable is not plugged in you are ok.

3.)  I have read that as long as you dont click on the xbox live tab on the dash you will be ok.

Is there any concrete answer to this?  As in which scenario is the right one?

All responses appreciated.

if u have ur modchip on in any part of ms dashboard u will be banned.

I think I'm right in saying that this hasn't actually been confirmed yet. It's only a theory. In fact I've seen a number of posts from people who run their msdash with mod on and haven't been banned.

It's only when to go to Live from the dash that you would then be banned.

it doesn't matter if u have the cat5 cable in or out----or if u go to xbox live tab in the dashboard.

if u have ur modchip on in any part of ms dashboard u will be banned.

where are you getting this from?  Have you actually been banned this way?

Well I've never seen a post here from someone who has been banned in that way.

But I have seen posts from people who run their mod on and haven't been banned when using the dash.

So it's probably just unfounded rumours.

Not saying you couldn't be banned in this manner just that I've yet to see a post on any forum supporting this theory.

I've dropped to the MS dash and it happened in a way I havent read of here so here it is.  I have the Matrix evox. 2.5 bios, chip on mode 3.  When I turned on the xbox by hitting the eject button (instead of hitting the power button so I could put the disc right in) it dropped me to the ms dash with the mod chip on (green).  No orange xbox logo, just straight to the msdash.  That happened about a week ago and I am still online.
I started this to see if there really was a definite answer.  But as of now I am still online, so if no one knows for sure, I'll let you know how it goes for me.
If someone has been banned because of this then post it up.

ok, back to topic.  Has anyone dropped to the MS dash with the mod chip on.  Not clicked on the live tab, and been banned?
And, if no one is getting banned by doing this, why is there a need for the f:/ loading bios?  The f: thing is just a question.  No need to freak out about all the work that went into making that happen.  I am just wondering.

I have personally dropped to the MS dash with live installed with my mod on and was NOT banned.  That was before I changed my bios to boot from F.  Right now, the only reason for this (as far as I know) is to prevent future banning if MS decides to start checking your HD contents.  F is invisible when the mod is disabled.  But what you can do is make a non-live MS dash on your F drive that you can drop to safely.  See opjose's guide on accomplishing this.  I have done it and it works like a charm.  With my mod on, I can only drop to a non-live MS dash.  With mod off, I can only drop to the MS Live dash.

So, sometimes you do get banned, sometimes you don't.  this is ridiculous.  I can't believe no one has a definite answer on this yet.

so basically everyone has to have EvolutionX installed if they want to avoid booting to the wrong dash.  I refuse to believe this.  Anyone else have an experience like Quaker's?
