QUOTE (aGeMo @ Nov 21 2002, 11:53 AM)
Even though I hate to say it, when we signed up for xbox live we agreed that we wouldn't be using a modded xbox on the live service when we accepted the EULA. I DO see why MS is banning modded xboxs and even though I was banned myself and am mad about it, I kinda agree with it. I know I would never cheat on xbox live I can NOT speak for the whole mod community. MS is just trying to create a cheat free online gaming enviroment by banning all modded xboxs. Yes, this blocks the "legit" modded xboxs out but it's keeping the service totally cheat free.

Do you think MS would have been willing to give you a refund on your X-Box Live purchase if you decided you did not agree to the shrinkwrapped EULA?

If you did not use the service I believe they are legally bound to give you a refund and I personally think they would.

Zander I totally agree with you. It's amazing what people can do with hacking products with a little bit of creativity and inteligence. I'm all for learning about difference services, in this case xbox live, but when this interferes with other paying legal and legit customers by allowing cheaters to connect that's when I get pissed. The legit players deserve to have a cheat free enviroment that they payed for and if this involves me buying a 2nd xbox I will.

Sure all you people can flame MS all you want for banning modchips but just try and see it through their eyes. Yes there are legit modchip users out there, but you and I both know there's no doubt that the number 1 use of a modchip is for playing pirated games. There's no denying this. Flame me for having morals, I don't care but there's a place where you have to draw a line. And don't get me wrong, if a solution that does arise that allows me to connect my banned xbox to live without using someone else's serial, by all means I'm going to use it. I know I won't cheat or play pirated games online. How about you guys?

uhmm.....opjose.  so are you telling me that field in evox is bullshit?  there is a field to say which type of media should be auto-booted when inserted.  if you set games to off, wouldn't that work?  and then no cds will work with the modded configuration, and you will be trouble free.

anyways.  for the other guys.  i want to get around xbox live.  i want to get on with my modded system.  but not because i want to use pirated games.  i have no problem paying for online games at all. i just find it to be an inconvenience to have to remove my modchip each time i want to play backup or original games.

god damn you MS.  anyways, what i wrote in the post gives a quick solve to the problem.

i'm still surprised about the game booting on startup even with the field set to off in the evox.ini file.

that is very strange.  can anyone confirm/deny thaT?  go to your evox.ini file, and set game cd booting to off.  then insert a cd into the drive.  also, try putting a cd into the xbox, and powering it off with the cd in there.  at that point power on the console and see what happens.

thanks to anyone that tries this for me.

fuck you.  i didn't claim it.  i was asking.  in another thread i had also asked people to check this if they can.

anyways, you're just pissy.   the one way to fix this now, is for a way to disable the network adapter while in the modded state.  if anyone knows how to do that, would be great to add it here.

making a hidden switch would also prevent people from plugging in a cable.  so even if they did that, it would be off.

i'm trying to think about the most secure way, rather than what can be passed off as ok.

Great ideas here but still this isn't a solution for xboxs that are already banned. If no solution arises within the next week or so I'll be making a trip out to buy a second xbox for live.

Solution already available! Keep watching this space!

                                    and that is?

What...the...fuck

You're going around telling people they were wrong when you don't even have a fucking mod chip?  Way to make huge leaps of logic, chump.

i do have a modchip.  and even if i didnt, it wouldn't matter.  this is basic electronics.  learn it.

again, i DO have a modchip.  i recently got my banned xbox changed for a new one, and have been too busy playing mech assault online to bother doing anything to the xbox.

i know what i'm talking about.

Anyway until a fix is available (and it's coming!) keep away from the MS dashboard or XBLive enabled games while you have the mod chip turned on. This is the safest policy.

Again, with a little bit of electronic wizardry you can use the LED on the back of the Xbox (ethernet connection indicator) to disable/enable the mod. When your network connection is active = no mod, inactive = mod. This is the only way I could think to avoid muppet siblings/cohabitors of getting you banned. Ok, it means you can't FTP from your PC to Xbox, but you can still use/copy from DVD to HD.
Just a thought, sorry if I'm repeating myself.
