This sounds promising, but if it were just an issue of us connecting to the wrong host name, all they would need to do is change the DNS A record to point to the correct server.

I still think this call may indicate good news, but only time will tell.  For now, I'm playing Metal Gear Solid 2 ans some others I just picked up.

So basically with the second half of what you're saying (the first half I have to see to believe.  Anybody in the know with MMRPGs knows that MS's Asheron's Call slaps people on the wrist for using cheats) is that us beta testers have some leftover crap on our systems or maybe on their systems that hasn't updated?

im not exactly sure whats left over.  i think if you put in the retail disk before the 15th then your with us.  but if you didnt then i have no idea.  as for the cheating stuff.  he didnt bring that up.  he just said using modified hardware or unaproved software will result in immediate expulsion from the service... or something along those lines

I'm debating on deleting that Live save and then putting the retail disc in, although the dash is most likely not in need of another update and that save being deleted would screw me up more.

That BS...I think he was telling you what you wanted to hear.  I talked to a rep today and she told me that my xbox was banned (it took a little teeth pulling).   I already had a second unmodded xbox so my account works fine.  She went on to say that I would not be removed from the service just that this xbox would never work again on live again. (Maybe someone will find a hack).    She then told me that they couldn't really ban accounts because they are mobile and if you accidently went to you buddies house with a mod and didn't know it and got banned it would be really bad PR.

This falls in line with what I think is going on.  I can confirm that you are assigned a server the first time you log in. I can also confirm that the numbers on the  Y screen have nothing to do with modchips.  It has everything to do with network settings.  I got a tech support guy here (Live support is in austin, tx as am I) and he told me that those people who bought early are having most of the problems and that Target got a stearn talking to :/ .  What I didn't expect him to say was that I could get rid of the "patch" or "update" that live sent me by restoring my XBOx to factory settings.  At this I was surprised.  He looked up a reset code based on my serial number and told me to enter it and it will reconfigure my xbox.  This code is under the sys info screen. You press Y and it asks you for the code.  Its 4 keypresses long and supposedly completey restores the system.  He said all saved games go bye-bye.  I have not tried this but there is some hope in this.  Someone more brave than I might want to try this.  I have no need as I returned my live kit to target for a refund.  I am gonna wait this out until they get it settled.  You have to get the code from tech support.  Good luck.

She told you your box was banned?  I don't believe this.  I specifically asked my tech support person if they were banning people for getting on early and he told me they hadn't banned anyone yet.  Who knows.  All I know is that I got my $49 back so its not my problem.

thats why we are not getting a response from the packet sniffing stuff, he said quite simple there is no server there to connect to. when you first log in to xbox live it designates a server to you

Now wait. IF, and only IF, people where playing 24/7 this strategy would make any sense. Also, even if it was that, server replication should take care of that. They can't rely on this kind of strategy if they want even load balance between servers.

I will let the dust to settle down, but I'm ready for the worst, whatever it is.

Yes, the code is console specific.  I can give you the code that corresponds to my xbox, but I was told it will only work for some.  Best bet is to call tech support and ask for your own code.

up-y-x-y

Thats the one for my serial #.

Sure, but the real question: Does it let you login to live once that is reset?

The problem is that if 100 people call tech support with the same line of inquiry, probably about 5 of them will get a person that knows anything about this code. It shouldn't be hard to crack this 4 digit code if you know your serial. Don't share your serial with us of course.

Mek.  Your logic makes no sense (niether does your english).  Tech support personel  are measured by how fast they get people off the line.  Sure sometimes they have alittle fun at your expense but not when it would be detrimental to thier scores.  There is no way a tech support person would sit with me on the phone for an hour if he knew the real problem.  just my $.02
