While I won't be doing this, it would be a pretty cool idea. I'm not sure what pre-modded xboxs are going fo these days. But $300 doesn't seem to far out there. Buy another one and still have plenty to buy a chip that will once again let you play backups, dashboard, etc. when it comes out.
You would / could end up with a 1.1 system, have the better DVD-rom drive (does the newest drive in the xbox read cdr?). Or wait for the price to drop again and save even more.

people, people, don't buy new xbox's it's only fuelling M$ greedy nature. just think how much money it's gonna cost them NOT to have people with modded xbox's subscribing to xblive!

What about those of us who have a chip and played MEchassualt all night last night with no problems. And I didn't even have to run around with my head cut off!

adam you seem to be one of the lucky few.personally i had tried everything but installing a switch,which seems to be the most likely answer to everyones problems.all i am saying is getting a new virgin xbox worked for me,so if you want to get online and don't want to wait till it gets figured out buy a new xbox and sell your old one,just make sure u do it at a place that takes returns in case it doesn't work.the only downfall of all this was losing my custom bike and having to rerip my music.

I have a Matrix chip but I still have the original HD. Works with the mod on or off. It is , however, a legit copy of Mechassault.
