update worked fine here.

my setup: homeade chip w/yboxdash.xbe (original xboxdash.xbe), evox running off hd.  nfl2k3 retail (i purchased), then made my own rip of it and put it on hd.  XBOX Live beta disc (w/moto gp & whacked)

ran update, started d/l, then it rebooted the game and played fine on Live.

see ya'll online.

So it seems the update may not be able to work with the rip that is floating around.  Similar to the situation with LOTR awhile back, it seems the rip is at fault.  MS is not yet detecting mod chips or backups, but they may in the future.  The error is caused by the update not finding files it expects because they have been ripped out.

I'm Soooooooooo Sick of reading people say : "Buy the game"...

Sure we should all encourage M$ and help increase a billionaire's fortune...
Sure we dont want xbox to die out so we need to make it profitable for M$...

But, in all honesty, who the hell buys a modchip and upgrades their hardrive, spending a few hundred dollars in the process, only to have to PURCHASE the games later on...

I think anyone who says that sentence is a big fucking jackass...

Ya, I'm a little bitter, but thats my 2 cents....

LOL ROTFL!

Great, but wrong thread!

No it's NOT "modchip detection", it's a bug in the update.

Once the update finishes the game works fine.

Someone posted a fix in another thread for the error messages...

Its interesting the updater downloads and places the default.xbe in the temp dir like that.  I'm guessing thats what it uses to compare to the game xbe, but I would have thought there would be a better way to do that (crc checking or something)

I don't see how this is an bug in the updater though, it still seems to be an bad rip (WAM release default.xbe was messed up or somehow changed).

My xbox is running the ybox bios and i ripped nfl2k3 straight to the xbox hdd from the xbox using boxplorer and i think my update went fine for that game because ive played every day and it hasn't come up with any problems. However, i dont really remember it saying exactly that it was updating anything but i do see the changes like the clock when you pause the game and how they took out the "create match" option in the main menu and you just have to go into the "opti-match" thing now but im pretty sure it all got updated and everything and it works fine for me....

i dont really understand why some people are having so many problems

kinda off the subject, but does anyone know if you can just keep using the beta xbox live or do you have to upgrade to the retail disc in order to be able to see and challenge all the people in the lobbies and everything....cause im wondering if the xbox live disc is "safe" for the modded xboxers cause if it's not, then id just stay on the beta

another thing way off the subject, does anyone know for certain when the roster updates for nfl2k3 are gonna come out? im guessing that they'll be here nov. 15 but im just wondering if anyone knows for sure

also, people updating from the beta to the retail, will we be able to play xblive using the retail disc before nov 15 comes around or do we have to wait till then, cause if we have to wait then there's no point in updating to the retail until then
