i did the update for nfl2k3 last night and i'm pretty sure it's just an update to nfl2k3 for xbox live.  it makes a few changes, the biggest one being the fact that if a user pauses the game for more than 90 seconds it will automatically forfeit the game.  this prevents people who are losing in the game from pausing it and keeping it at that screen until the winner quits (therefore getting the loss).  that was the purpose of the xbox live update, so as to why you can't login anymore, i have no clue.  it really shouldn't have affected that.
