Strange Problem, Cant Pinpoint The Cause
« on: May 09, 2004, 08:28:00 PM »

I recently did a tsop flash for somebody on a v1.0 board, flashing a 512kb x2 bios
which i modified as to skip the animation and display different colors.

The system worked for some time, but then fragged occasionally, so i took a look, and found a wire was loose from which i soldered the tsop enable points, im guessing the wire was ground[touching] itself againts the board causing the frag.

So i removed the wire, then the system worked without hitch. I then put the lid on.
I waited 25mins, and did some other things, came back and pressed power.

The system booted, but no video, im guessing no audio as well.

I tied several times, but nothing, i took the lid off, and looked around, i moved my iron around the area were i had been soldering, and nothing seem to be wrong.

I installed an xecuter 2 and for about 1/4 it tried to show the logo[since i disabled the animation it goes straight to the pic], but didnt.

I turned off the chip, and it did not even try to display anything.

I installed a switch on the tsop, when the switch is on a side, nothing happens.

When i flip, it does the same thing, as trying to display pic.

I am using the same bios 498x, which i had modified myself to be different.

I have used this same method on several tsops, and none have failed till now.

Placing the cover back on flexed the motherboard SLIGHTLY exposing a problem with your original solder points.

Try touching them all with a hot iron again, for a second.

I've been here.

Have you tried flashing the tsop back to the retail bios, or even a non-modified bios?

since i cannot look at any screen, how would i accomplish this task

It well may be that the IC's have now sustained damage.

Assuming for the moment that this is not the case, you may want to trace the LPC pins "further up" the food chain, right to farther pads on the circuit board.

The pictures of alternate points help a lot for this as do the picks posted for the different Xbox versions that show where each LPC connection goes.

While you do this it also helps to double check that no to LPC pins are "common".

That is that say PIN 2 & 5 show continuity with each other, etc.
