Mine came with a Phillips.  Manufactured "2004-02-12"
Line 1 in China (05).

If you don't know how to tell this information, it's all in your serial #.  Go  here.

Quick warning. Thus far the use of serial numbers to predict the version xbox or drive you're going to get have been flaky at best. I don't want anyone to think a certain number will corespond to a certain version box or brand drive. You may end up dissappointed, and I'd hate to think X-S gave you faulty info.

I just bought the Transparent Green Halo SE.

Phillips DVD and 20gb Seagate.

It has the focus video decoder.

I still have to get out my multimeter to find out whether its a 1.4 or a 1.5

Before any one gets to disapointed with their new phillips, try it out...

The last one I modded had the new phillips, & it read everything I threw at it.

Memorex cd-r
Some no name CD-r
Compusa cheap ass DVD-R

Mabey this guy got lucky, but it worked every bit as good as the sammy...

a 20 gig drive?

You lucky dog!  biggrin.gif

I was wondering when they would run out of 8 and 10 gig drives and switch over to 20s which would be the smallest they could get!

Yup, even the green 'Non-Halo' special edition ones in Canada have the Philips drive now.  Just modded one for a customer yesterday.  The drive is shit though.  I had to hookup my samsung to it to read cdr discs.  (even 600mb fully padded ones).

Really sad...I thought they were going to stick with the Samsungs.
