Halo2 Not Working Right
« on: July 22, 2005, 03:22:00 PM »

So after installing the map packs.. my halo2 is broke as a joke.

Every time I start it up.. I get this loading bar after the Bungie beginning.

It takes about 5-8 minutes to load to 100%

Then I get texture disappearances and maps that take about 5 minutes to load.

I either need a quick fix or can someone please tell me where Halo2 dumps all of it's files so I can delete them and start clean (any and all files associated with Halo2/maps/cache etc.)

I just want to play my game.

I don't understand what this new status bar is or what it's trying to do... for it doesn't do anything (that I know of..)

It's really strange.

The status bar shows the game loading. It's been in all along, but you just don't notice it since it finishes before the videos end typically. Play off the HDD and delete all the videos and you see it.

Anyways, it sounds to me like your hard drive is dying. Is Halo 2 the only game that's been acting funny?

Is there anyway for certain to check for a dying hd?

All I've noticed is the halo2 problem. All other games seem to be running fine (played since then flatout, batman begins, destroy all humans, and a few others.)

Do you have the same problem or what?

Why did you quote that?

Halo 2 has cache content in E:\Cache and X, Y and Z drives.

Try clearing your X, Y and Z drives, and the aforementioned cache folder, and see if that fixes your problem.

I personally wouldn't lay it on a dying HDD, seeing as your other games work fine... A friend of mine had similar problems (maps took ages to load, loading bar at startup) and it was a simple cache delete which did the trick.

Hope this helps.

p.s. If you want to delete the map packs/halo 2 saves, you can do that in the memory section of the Xbox Dashboard.

Did that and same results. Maybe I didn't get the map saves though (was looking for Halo 2 alone)

I'm thinking the auto installer ticked something off.

I don't think it's my hd either because I was trying out a lot of games and xbmc last night and everything is fast and working except Halo.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Now I'm gonna be all rusty in Halo2 and die a lot on kai.

Just make sure it isn't the disc, sometimes when it is having trouble reading the disc things do load but they just take so much longer. So you could try dumping it your HD and see what happens.

No space on my hd for Halo 2 to fit (using stock)

I'm pretty sure the maptacular did something nutty. I'm betting I overlooked the map saves in the xbox memory. I shall try that and if it doesn't work.. I'll come back crying.

I had this happen on my Thompson DVD drive but then I bought a new Samsung and the problems went away.

So it sounds like a bad dvd drive. :(

Here's a new clue.

After the progress bar goes and I try to play... if I go to the xbox memory... one of the files is corrupt1

I hope its not any hd or dvd problem. My xbox is my main media lovebox and I have about no pennies to put together for either or.

Sounds simple but it's worth a shot;

After the auto-update my H2 was really slow and glitchy, I cleaned the game as much ass possible and it works perfect now.

There's also special CD you can get to clean the lens on your DVD it might be worth getting one of these if your DVD drive gets a lot of use.

I have no idea what's going on now. Deleted all files/folders.. cleaned disc... everything. Still doing the same thing.

Xbox plays everything fast and fine. backups, dvds, games, movies etc.

Can you borrow a friends disk and try that?
