Selecting Map In Optimatch
« on: January 24, 2005, 07:27:00 PM »

Allright, now i know in custom games, you can select your map and every teeny weeny specification to your liking. It is good, when you have friends online. When everyone is in matchmaking and you're all alone, it's a different story.

I personally think that it is fucking retarded that there isn't an option to choose at least the map in optimatch. I understand that it may be unfair in rumble pit, team slayer and other ranked games, as some people have maps that they have honed their skills on, but at least in rumble training, this would be a blessing.

I like Lockout, for instance. I say, if there are other Lockout junkies like me, who want to play lockout, we can have the damn option to.  If not in ranked games, at least in rumble training for god sakes. I drag myself through five or six fucking coagulation, collossus, and foundation shitbag maps, with shitbag gametypes, before i get a half decent Lockout or Ascension battle. And even THEN, you have to cross your fingers for a good game type, not random weapons or sword duel or some other dumb shit.

With such a good game, why would bungie fuck up so bad as to do this? I understand that you may like the maps or gametypes that i mentioned as bad, so ignore them if they offend you, but post your thoughts at least.

Would you want to be able to select your maps, in ranked or even unranked optimatch games, on Halo 2 on xbox live?

unranked games should be like socom, where you just pick your rooms.

already been explained many times... this system was implemented to ensure a fair game... now im sure someone will bitch about standby or something else but that is beside the point... if you want custom games, get more friends: its not that hard... just post on the bungie forums and im sure youll get shitloads of friend requests...

u'd run into problems also because the list would be too big. with 90,000 people playing halo on average.

another thing. People would get to be awesome on maps like colossus and zanzi and never ever play the others but still rank up. Now, you have to be good at all gametypes/maps to rank up and be good.

Stop bitching and get better or quit.

QUOTE
Well, no it really is retarded that you can't play ranked games with custom gametypes.

if you could whats to stop people padding thier rank by playing 3 ball oddball all the time and letting each other win? there has to be a set playlist that rank can be determined from...

Okay, say you like Rockets. You play that gametype all the time with your friends. You also suck at Swords matches. Now every time you play Rockets, you win. Every time you play Swords, you lose. If you only play Rockets, your rank will go up to 30 in no time. If you only play Swords, your rank will always be 0. If your rank was 30, well, that's not your real rank because that's only on gametypes you're good at. Bungie is right. If you don't like it, go play your Counter-Strike.

It's not that hard, people.

How many times do I have to say UNranked.

UNRANKED
UNRANKED
UNRANKED

In the words of napolean dynamite? *idiots*

In my words? *Illiterate*

Read it again, get over yourselves. I'll take anybody in Halo. Just because i played CS doesn't mean i'm a n00b at Halo.

Anyone care to respond with a half intelligent reply?

Dan, I understand what you mean and think it would be a cool idea.

Example:
Have a "Choose Map" tab in Optimatch that is UNRANKED. The "Choose Map" option opens up a little submenu and lets you select the map of your choice. You press start and the matchmaking engine automatically sets you up with people that wanna play the same map as you. Maybe it could take your Rumble Pit ranking and place you with people somewhat in your skill level.

Faid, i don't know if you were talking to me or to everyone else. I don't see what my quote has anything to do with what you said.

Regardless, i've been agreeing with what you said. The developers gametypes blow half the time, phantoms on midship? retarded. i mean come on.

I just wish maps would start with the smg and battle rifle as it's primary and secondary weapons; like the original pro setup in halo 1.  I hate just being stuck with one weapon; usually the smg; i need my battle rifle (aka pistol) from the get go.

Joking, I actually agree..needless to say I even started my own whine a couple of weeks back for reasons similar to this.

I paid £40 for xbox live, £35 for halo 2..why the fuck shouldn't I being able to choose what game I play?

wink.gif ), they LET YOU CHOOSE YOUR MAP. It's the first damn thing that you notice in optimatch, WHERE YOU ARE. because it's IMPORTANT. and Bungie made the mistake of never letting us pick our own maps in optimatch.
