Was Halo 2 Overhyped, And Not Worth It?
« Reply #15 on: November 15, 2004, 01:57:00 PM »

OKAY, I'm not here to flame.

With that out of the way, are you guys fucking insane????

Comparing duke nukem 3d to either of the halo games is a joke, the physics(edit: spelling phisics oops) in halo slaps duke nukem in the sack and keeps walkin.  Yeah, jetpacks would be the shit.  The elites have them in single player, so if they aren't going to be downloadable content, someone will hack them.  Which I know you shouldnt account for hacks as part of how you rate a game but entire games are based on other games that were hacked (Counter Strike for example)  But back to my point, duke nukem 3D is comperable to doom2.

As for PC versus console, if your PC is up to par it will smoke any console on the market, the xbox (which has the most powerful hardware in a console) is only the equivalent of a 733 pentium w/ 64 mb shared memory, that is it shares 64 megs between the system and video... aka a really weak PC.  But consoles have the advantage of number of games available.  Theres alot of developers that develop w/ consoles in mind then port their games to PC.

For those saying that the graphics on halo 2 suck, you must be watching the game with your dicks.  EVERYTHING has been stepped up from halo 1 bump mapping is used to the fullest effect, there are no prerendered backdrops, only 3d world.  All of the cutscenes are run on the games physics and graphic engine, something that most game developers dont have the ability to do, bc their cutscenes would look alot like a wookie's asshole... UGLY.  dont even flame me w/ the "omg you fag you like wookie assholes".  Back to the point yet again.  If you say that either of the halo games are average or call the second one an updated first one, you are a tard.. no offense, but really which bus do you ride?  I bet its the short one.

Halo 2 is a continuation of halo 1 so if you are bitching because of similarities in gameplay do us a favor and kick yourself in the nuts.  Halo 2 is halo with WAY more features the physics engine is alot different, the character models have been changed, they now use fewer polygons and achive a better look (w/ bump mapping and advanced normal mapping techniques) so that now when there are 16 character models on your screen the xbox doesnt lag.  There are alot more vehicles and they are damagable in multiple layers, YOU CAN FUCKING STEAL YOUR OPPONENTS VEHICLE I MEAN COME ON THAT FUCKIN ROCKS.  And im not talking about some 3rd person realtime strategy mutant hijacker bullshit, you jump on the vehicle and melee the hatch until it breaks, then you punch them to death or stick em w/ a grenade.  What game offers that shit? None that I know of.  The weapons are Balanced VERY well.  There is no getting good with 1 gun and owning the game, because different weapons behave better or worse depending on the situation... except the covenant carbine I predict that gun is going to piss alot of people off, but still the weapons are fucking sweet.  Do i even need to bring up the sword?  I will anyway, some people complain that "the sword is a noob weapon and is too easy to use" RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT thats why you don't get any kills w/ it because you are too l337 to understand the noobness of it.  WRONG, the truth is that you dont know how to sneak around and ambush people, you just charge and spray.  As for Halo 1 not being a good game.  It set the standard for what a new FPS was supposed to be.... I'm rambling and I'm at work sooooo I gotta go but FOR FUCKS SAKE PEOPLE HAVE YOU EVEN PLAYED THE GAME??@?@?@?@?@?@?!?!?!?!?!???!?@#!$!@$!@$

rolleyes.gif  the above is a person that has been blinded by Bungie.

the story sucks , at some point of the game i got bored. while on HALO you have that action and music that keeps you going.

Halo 2 music is the same one from HALO with just a little guitar and drums on it , more than half of the soundtrack is from other people and it sucks , not very HALO related songs.

and i can keep on and on but im just bored of talking about HALO 2 or should i say HALO 1.5.

First off I purchased the game and don't regret it... I would stand in line again and await  my copy for the experience alone (first I have ever done anything like that)

However, this game was overhyped and was very lackluster.
Has anyone else noticed that all the cool stuff in the previews were stripped away... for example the combo melee ability ... I mean where the hell did it go?

The stage I guess the first one Cairo ... the preview showed Master Chief manning the gun in the warthog shooting Wraiths and Banshees through a city to his surprise brutes came out of nowhere and started kicking ass.

The same stage where the marine tells M.C. to follow me and the wounded soldier first gave him the gun (dual weilding) and some ship flew by and dropped a bomb on some structure.

I feel ripped off in a sense, I won't fuss about this or that weapon, or falling and no damage, or any other complaint others brought up. But I thought my concerns were valid.

All the cool stuff (even though it was only in the first stage) are not present in the finished version ... at least not my copy ... ok enough with with this, time to try and win 10000 with ESPN 2K5.

sad.gif)

also they did not fix everything they were supposed to fix in halo 1 for halo 2.  for instance the repetitive levels, more often than not, i find myself wandering for i dont know how long trying to find which way is the right way to go, i heard that halo 1 had horrible level design and this one apparently is just as bad.  i mean after 3 years in development you'd expect them to fix it but they didnt.  wtf is wrong with them????

on the subject of Xlink and XBC vs live, really there is no difference when it comes to the gameplay, while Xbl is less laggy and has more players + clan support and matching services, Xlink and XBC also offers rooms to play in which under the right conditions perform exactly like those of xbl with the same features such as voice chat.  of course i prefer xbl but i somehow have the feeling that people cheat on those free networks.  still theres a lot of good games out there that have no lag and arent abound with cheaters, its still a good experience if you dont have the money to pay for xbl or dont want to pay for xbl.  in short, its just good to have it there when you need it even if you dont.

but while everyone is overhyping Halo 2, there are gamers that are awaiting the release of Half-Life 2 and have already played FPS greats like Farcry, Doom 3, Unreal.  PC FPSes have ALWAYS been superior to console and whoever said controller is better than a mouse obviously never played using a mouse.  its like comparing joysticks to pads and they just dont compare, you have much more control over a joystick than you do a pad, all the buttons are just laid out for you.

halo and part 2 may have not offered much new stuff (but it has made its contributions) but its still a pretty fun game, worth the 50bucks i spent. (at least its offered more new stuff than Doom 3)

Sure it was overhyped... did it meet the hype, probably not, but it is a great game none-the-less and was worth purchasing.  It has its downsides IMO, but all games do.

Which part of my statement shows that I have been "blinded by bungie"?
Although the way that I assembled my previous statement might have leaned toward worship of halo 2 (it is godlike tongue.gif) I used mostly facts.  Excluding the wookie asshole bit.

You on the other hand used opinions about how the single player sucked because "there wasn't enough action" and "the soundtrack"

My suggestion to remedy the "lack of action" is: turn the dificulty off of normal.

As for the soundtrack, you actually contradicted yourself:

So which is it? Halo 2 has new music that sucks and Halo 1 had music that "keeps you going".  Or does Halo 2 just use the same soundtrack from halo 1 with half of the songs different?

ahhhhhh....

okay I feel better, I hate to flame but I'm just about fed up w/ the halo bashing because it didn't live up to what you created in your mind.

You cannot compare the xbox's specs directly to a pc's specs.  While the xbox specs look pathetic, you don't need half (probably even less) of the cpu speed and ram that a pc would need for games.  With a pc, you have a lot more overhead to deal with, such as windows running in the background, and different gpu chip compatibility.  With the xbox, developers can use all of the available resources specifically for a game, and because everyone has the exact same hardware, they can squeeze every drop out of it.  You are never going to run halo 1 on a pc with a 733 cpu, and only 64 megs of ram, even at 640 x 480 res.  No way no how.

Halo 2 was way too overhyped. I mean the game is a whole new experience. Everything is so different, not to mention so many wrinkles on everything. It is ver next-gen, but IMO, its way too different from the original halo 1.

I grew up with the nintedo and the commedore 64. I have played games on pc's and consoles. I must say on pc's you have more graphics but the way the controller of a console conforms to the hand and the easy at which you can move around as if second nature make the console a better option for gaming for myself. I have tried controllers on my pc and it wasn't right. it didn't have the same feel as the console did. I guess you go with what feels better.

Also, to anyone defendind halo 2 based off of the live or online play. let us go back to the days before online play and the days when online play was a fledgling concept. A game must first satisfy the single player aspect before moving on and gaining merit in the multi-player/online aspects. Remeber less than half the xbox owners are online with the xbox. this means that while less than half can brag on the online features, most people with xbox and halo 2 are stuck on the sidelines and asking, "what happened to this savure of console gaming that was to be halo 2". why was it a savure? because unlike pc's, PC quality FPS on consoles are rare. halo: CE/1 reached this mark for the most part, halo 2 raises this benchmark, but anyone that is familure with programming sees how simple halo 2 is. it is a less polygon, better shaded version of halo 1 with similar maps and a few new maps. add a minimal amount of new vehicals and few new weapons, advertise as if it where an apocolyptic save the earth game, and put that in the demos, on the covers(games and guides and postures), and on every advertisement and halo 2 display in the nation, neh the world, and you have yourself a, "change at the last minute because MS is not sure it can garauntee enough sales with the new xbox 2 so we're going to strectch this game for all its worth", game

In sort good game for consoles, bad customer/fan loyalty to make an extra dollar. which is not illegal or bad business. But, MS has learned the value of a dollar and still has not yet learned the value of delivering what was said to be delivered.

i dont know... i knew 1 player would be like halo 1 with new levels and new guns.. nothing else too new.

when halo 1 came out it was fresh, now this was just too hyped... so i didnt expect much, and what i did get, i was alright with...

about the online statement.. certain games are just made for online play.. this, in my opinion, is one that without the online abilities wouldnt be worth the purchase.

it gave us all something to look forward to though right?
