Hey,
did a ram upgrade on my 1.5 xbox today, first i did everything without any additional solder, 3 times over again and if you started without the cable in the back it would turn on and go green orange i think.. and with the cable in (or 3rd time you try to boot it) its goes into the frag loop.. well so i came here and read, i got the impression i was supposed to add solder.. so i did a little, first time, nothing.. then i redid the connections again and then as i started it up i saw sparkles coming out of some connections of one ram chip (is this bad?) and i tried doing connections again but not it won't even start..

EDIT: maybe my connections vere good tho, could the tsop have erased itself?

It sounds like you shorted out the power supply.

The RAM chips have power/ground right next to each other, so it is very easy to short them together.  Always check the power rail before turning it on each time you re-solder. A multimeter will show a resistance of approx 30 Ohms if its ok, if it is much lower then there is probably a short.

As far as sparkes coming out of a chip..... YES this is bad. If you need to ask, then you shouldn't be attempting a RAM upgrade in the first place.  I would suggest you send it to A@ron (or someone else who has done a number of these), and hopefully he can repair it for you.

Nah the psu is okey..
It boots again

Okey, i was just too lazy to use a multimeter on each of the pin >_<

Well i do know that it can't be any good if sparkles are coming out lol..
I was more like looking for a reply like, 'yes now they are permanently damaged' or 'they might still be okey' biggrin.gif

As for sending it someones way, i live in finland, does anyone of these guys live near here?

EDIT: any recomendations on howto remove a bridge under the chip?

Alright now where is that penny arcade cartoon? Bout time for one eh Perplexer?

They SHOULDN'T be sparking (obviously) and most likely the chips and board are now toast. I couldn't tell for sure unless I looked at it but it seems that it's a lost cause.
