The way you people attact these boards with standard soldering irons i am surprized that you all to burn more of them up. When doing SMT work use the proper hot air tools and pre heaters and you will never mess up a board.

Hmm. I know this is kinda old. I jsut did a ram upgrade and the whole set frags! argh. Hmm. I wonder, do you guys reccomend the install method of drowing the whole ram in solder and debraid it? Yeah. Get back to me. i`ve been thru the board over and over again and it's driving me nuts.

I hate the drowning in solder method, this causes huge amount of bridges. If your going to remove the memory be very careful not to break any legs or send it my way.

Dantok emailed me about this and I agree.  Drowning it in solder can cause bridges underneath the chip that you can't even see.  I hate that method.  It also costs more money cuz you gotta use a lot of desoldering braid, also, little pieces of braid can get stuck between the pins too, and its copper.  If you can't see anything..use a multimeter and check adjoining pins for shorts.  There are 2 spots that are supposed to be shorted...but I dont remember which ones.  Good Luck

Hmm.. A@rron send it your way? Hmm. where are you located. Okay. i`m going to try one last time and i gotta buy a new soldering iron cause mine fried.. LOL. oh well. hope fully it was the soldering. Hmm. man and all this is tedious. VERY. Geez. i`m goingnuts seriously. Well. i shall try thouching up one last time. And the install looks good. Anyway. There was this video i saw. You don't even need to add solder. Just slide the pins and the solder will stick. Hmmm. don't know if it will work but i know it's freaking quick. Yeah. Drowning in solder. That's a very lightly way for the thing to brigde. damn it. FUCK! i don't wannt take out the ram. Taking out is a pain in the ass. and yes BRAID is F**** expensive. 6 bucks man and i bought a damn magnifying glass for 10 bucks. Geez. Expensive shit. I`ll try one last time and probably send it to someone who can help me.

A@ron, King Viper and myself - choose whomever if it comes down to requiring further assistance.

Hope you get this fixed without sending it off though as that only adds more cost.

Im in Iowa, and if all you want is the ram removed Ive got a SMT hot air reworking station which will pop em right off. I can then reinstall them if you wish or whatever.

Having a SMT rework station, making a video on installing chip or being a mod is definately no way to decide who is an expert...  If the job can be done then it doesn't matter who's go the most flash by their name...  wink.gif

I know I think we are all experts on this one just a little miffed that the guy seemed to incline that I was some sort of noob on this thing. Seriously my upgrade count is up to 53 I think I've put in enough time to be an expert. Point blank, KingViper, lookformeb, and I are probibly all equal on our skill in this matter; the prices are even identicle/really close for most things. If anyone, for future reference, has problems with their ram install pick one of use 3 based on location, or time we have to do it. Right now for instance, with being a Senior in college, graduation, and finals week (next week oh God!) I have little time to do upgrades at the moment. I've always had the 'you get what you pay for' mentality. I laugh at people in the BST forum who try to undercut sellers (and then they bitch about later how something arrived not as expected). KingViper, lookformeb and I are all EXPERTS on RAM.

A@ron

Ps anyone get what I am saying?

Nope I hate it, Got my Finite Element Analysis take home final done (take homes are not always easy people, trust me.) All I really have left is my Analysis of Medical Images 1 and my Ancient Pompeii: art and culture finals...
