Go over all of your solder points and recheck them.  It may sound like a long process, but I would touch each pin the with soldering gun again, just to make sure.  No video with a green light is a common problem when there are pins not all the way down etc.  Just check and check and check.  GoodLuck

i just bought a new box because of that and i only did one ram chip and 2 solder points straight fell off and so i took it off with nothing working and a solid green exact same as u.. also does your dvd tray open cause mine wont

been there, done that.. a ram upgrade is a very painstaking endevour.. just like doin a tranny swap on the weekend.. your best bet is to do the ram upgrade on a board that can be thrown away incase of these problems.. not a one day operation for someone new to this.. expect long delays and pure luck to pull it off.. took me a week touching points b4 i realized solder got behind and under a ram chip.. use flux... and solder in moderation.. when in doubt send it off to a professional and pay the 90bucks to have it done right..

sukked for me cause i didnt add more solder and i didnt fukk up soldering..2 of the poins just fell off when i touched them with the soldering iron

Once you get the xbox working, there is a program (xbmemcheck.rar) which will actually test the RAM.  Sounds like yours might not stop the xbox from booting, but fail once the data being stored is corrupted due to bad connection?  I dunno - just suggesting an idea.

Once you run the memcheck, you should have no CRC errors if the install is ok.  It says the last area of RAM can't be addressed (or something like that I cant remember) cos it is used for video memory.

screen artifacting is usually caused by a cold solder joint or a leg of ram not making good connection. This is mainly due to the xbox using the ram as video memory as well as data memory. Like kingviper go reflux and go over each leg one at a time make sure you get good solder flow and they are making good connection.

Go over every pin with a magnifying glass and make sure none are bridged, if that doesn't work, then apply pressure to the side of each pin with a hobby knife, or pin or something, and see if any are loose.  Keep trying.

There has to be some solder somewhere then.  What version is your xbox?  Where did you get the ram?  I can't stress it enough...keep looking all over around the memory.

yeah lookformebs ram should be good ram, I had a discussion about it with him and IIRC it should be new ram. Its your install job, keep going over the pins and use flux it helps the melt and flow. if all else fails someone (like me) will buy the board off your hands or trade ya for a working one.

Yea, i'm 100% sure it's my install, I guess i'll keep looking at it.  Trading/selling is the LAST thing I wanna do...I really wanna figure out how to do this myself:)

lol, overconfidence is a bitch. My suggestion is to check in between the pins and behind them, take a look at the solder pads, make sure there isnt a TINY small bridge on one of the pads with the solder in the back. I cant TELL YOU how long it took me to find it, and this was after I decided to trash the 128 upgrade and was when i had the chips all removed from my first board. dont just look at the front of the pins, look at the WHOLE solder pad, and like everyone else said, make sure all your points are connected solid =)

I guess no one really answered, but if I do have bridging, won't the xbox automatically frag?  After going over my pins again, i turned it on and was greeted with the cromwell bios.  Sweet.  After about 20 seconds I turned it off and turned the xbox back on.  Again, no video....just a solid green light.  Doesn't that mean it's a CONTACT problem rather then a BRIDGING problem?  Thats what I understand after doing a bit of reading, but I dont know!

yup its a contact problem most likely then. Your xbox probibly had what I like to call "dry" pads, meaning that the extra ram pads were sore of like lightly tinned but there wasnt a buildup of solder on them origionally. Of couse "wet" pads are what I like to call the ones with solder bumps on them from the factory and these are easier to do for me. Once again chances are there is a pin not making good contact somewhere. maybe try adding very little solder on the iron when you redo the pins.

And they dont always frag, no video/audio can be a sign of brigding. But booting then not and screen artifacting are a sign of a dry solder joint or loose pin.

Use solder flux.  It really helps keep the solder from bridging all over.  I just add some to the tip of my soldering gun and then lightly run the tip on each pin.  If some do bridge just clean off your tip and run it on the pin..should soak up any extra solder.

My first memory upgrade took me a long time, sometimes its best to take a day off.
