Buying Halo2 Limited Editions To Profit
« on: November 04, 2004, 12:08:00 AM »

I was wondering.  I work at a store that is just opening and i looked at our stock.  It is showing us to be receiving 450 copies of halo2 and like 150 of the limited edition.   I was thinking of picking up some copies and saving them for when people have a hard time getting them, think this would be worthwhile or should i not.  I think i could sell them and make some money off them on ebay in a month or so, i was thinking maybe picking up 6 or 7 copies and keeping 2 for me and my bro.  the cool thing is none of our stock has been reserved since this store is new and opening.  so no worries on preordering.

seeing as everyone collects everything these days i doubt youll make much profit (if any)... while stuff might be valued at a certain price, that doesnt mean that people will pay that...

People are paying more for the Halo xbox.  So the LE game may sell for an extra $20 three months from now.

Most game stores will tell you that they are all sold out but most department store like target, best buy, circuit city and walmart will have plenty to buy. I usually get games from department store whenever EB,gamestop tell me they are sold out.

QUOTE (trentdadi @ Nov 5 2004, 06:43 AM)
Isnt that kind of like scalping which is kind of illegal but most of the time is ignored?  Kind of like last years rose bowl game.  I forget how much the ticket value was but on ebay, people were selling like a commemerative pen that was worth a few bucks for 3,000$ and than saying "If you buy this pen, you will receive two free rose bowl tickets!."  I thought it was quite humorous.

And i was told by some gamestop employee that the Halo 2 LEs have no additional content, it just comes with some retard dvd that shows like the making of it and shit.  Id rather have just a blank dvd so that I can burn halo 2 onto it so my original will be nice and shiny forever.

It is not scalping. Scalping is a very specific law enforced by some citys/states on certain items usually tickets. The law is usually no scalping in front of the stadium or in that city.

As for making a profit off the Limited editon, good luck. Its not very limited. There is enough limited editions out there that everyone who wants one can buy one. There is no limited on how many LE you can buy off ebgames because its only limited by how many people are willing to pay an extra $5 for an extra DVD and a metal case.

Look at it this way, how many hardcore halo fans who are willing to pay over retail for an LE, don't have the game pre-ordered or aren't going to get one in the first week? rotfl.gif

Making money off of others because you are in a position to take advantage of the system? What goes around, comes around, one day you will want something you can't have and will have to pay an inflated price, I hope you remember the time you tried to screw some kids out of a couple of bucks on a video game.

I could see if it was before the street date. I've seen some LE Halo 2's on eBay that sold for a pretty penny (most over $125 US)...

I think someone is a little touchy.

Look it's called Capitalism.  Supply and Demand.  It's like buying 5 1st issue comics of a new series in hopes it'll be worth something later.  Nothing wrong with it.

No, it's not like your example at all... if a consumer walks into the store and buys 5 copies of Halo 2 LE and sells them at a profit at another time then good for them, it's captializim... if a store employee buys 5 copies from his own store, before the public has a chance to buy them it means NEVER giving the public a chance to buy them and he is taking advantage of his position, which is NOT capitalism, it is closer to insider trading then anything else.

Hey whatever man.  I got many more important things to worry about myself like paying my mortgage and all.  Someone uses their store to get a few extra copies of Halo 2, more power to them.

Buy a few and roll the dice.

What could happen you break even at the worst (unless you hold them too long)

If they sell out I'm sure people will pay a few extra dollars for them come x-mass.

The other dude is right, hardcore fans already spent the $5.00 extra and pre ordered the limited edition.

All you get is a metal case and a behind the scenes dvd... I am sure the dvd will be out for "free" anyway, so basically you get a metal case. My guess is that you will be able to sell for only $10-$20 over what you pay for them, and you won't be able to sell them until they are impossible to find...

It might be worth the investment, who knows...
