Halo 2 Vs Half Life 2
« Reply #105 on: September 26, 2003, 03:19:00 PM »

yeah... you damn right it's worth the playstation alone...

the point i was trying to get accross tho is that thoose screenshots are from the same franchise on the same hardware.... and you notice that they get better and better... halo will do the same... .half life is different... the original can work on 166+, the sequel probably needs something as high as a 2ghz with GeforceFX/R9700... to say that halo is limited by hardware is true but a bit nieve...

infact this argument is totally stupid ... play both and stfu...

QUOTE (Sykotek @ Sep 26 2003, 11:02 PM)
Aah, Foe, did someone piss in your corn flakes lately?

Here you go, on your points:

1)  I bought the whole system (less a monitor, I had one) for $499.  I assumed when I said I 'bought a pc' you would understand what a PC was.  I mentioned in a previous post it included a cdrw.  Ever been to a PC show?  You would not argue with me about the price I got if you had been.  Get over it.

2)  Again,  in a previous post (reading comprehension problem maybe??) I said I own 3 xboxes.  I have a home network and they're all on it.

3)  It is the same game engine with enhancements.  I said it would look like a 'polished' halo 1.  Generally, when you polish something, it looks better, no?  That's what I meant.  I will try to keep the metaphors at more of a grammar school level which it seems is easier for you to understand.  Magnitude of 10X better?  Justify that.  Maybe 2X.

4)  OK, you got me on the FSB speed.  I'll accept a draw since I still had the correct info on the cache (which any DEVELOPER will tell you is way more important than the bus (perepheral) speed.)  The CPU clock is still the same.

5)  This makes no sense.  The Xbox hardware will remain unchanged from Halo1 to Halo2.  What are you trying to say?  The point remains, whether it performs better than an identically setup PC or not (It does I grant you), it's still a few generations old already.

6)  1080i is 1920X1080.  not 1440X1080.  Actually I don't know where the hell you pulled that number from.  And with my P2 2.0, Geforce 440MX and 1/2GB ram, I get perfect rendering at 1900X1600X16 and 1600X1200X32, thank you.  The xbox would choke on its own vomit and die at those resolutions and color depths.

7)  I beat Halo on Legendary.  I showed my friend the Legendary ending before it was released on the Xbox Mag demo disc.  Playing with a joystick makes it real?  Hmm.  I think you just like to play with your vibrating joystick.

8)  No, Doom is the first game I can remember centered around an alien invasion.  I didn't say HL was.  I said "It sells games" meaining that yes HL and Doom and Duke nukem et al used the plot scenario.  Again, I'll stick to the remedial reading level from now on.

9)  You don't really have an argument here.  Reviewers said the same thing I did about the repetitive textures and map styles.

I'm not biased.  No reason to be.  opinionated?  Sure.

I don't eat corn flakes, "i eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast"! laugh.gif

1) Ok........i bought an xbox at a flee market for $5, so it is in the same price range as a gameboy.  That is about as asinine as your comparing a pc with those specs with an xbox, in terms of price range.

2) Woopty fing doo!

3) It is not the same game engine with enhancements.  What does it take to get this through your thick "mature" skull?

4) The bus speed is more important than the L2 cash, when it comes to gaming.  That's why ms upped the bus speed and not the L2 cash....duh.

6) Ya, you get perfect still frame rendering at 1900 x 1600 res on a p4 2ghz.  Try playing a game with any sort of taxing recommended specs, aka. unreal2, and you'll chug like no other.

7) Again, woopty fing doo!  What do you want, a cookie?  You probably would still get your ass kicked on multiplayer halo online (xbconnect).  Halo is the only fps that takes skills and is not just another frag fest like all the other fps on the pc.

8) You said, "Actually, Half life came out years before halo, and ironically, you're fighting an alien invasion in Half life.  At least they could have thought of something original for the halo story, but no, just leach the alien invasion thing.  Hey it sold games!"
You accuse halo of "leaching the alien invasions thing", then go on to say in this post that half life wasn't the first, but there were other like doom (holy shit, imagine that).  So, that means that your precious halflife "leached the alien invasion thing" too.  Man, kudos for arguing your "remedial" point on this one.  Use words that you can understand, because apperently you can't even understand what you've wrote.

9) If someone else says it, then it's ok for you to say it.  I guess it too hard for you to rationalize and come up with your own points on a subject.

1)  Bullshit.  Unless it was broken or you bought it off some poor retarded kid (probably a classmate of yours).

2)  You said I didn't even own an xbox.  I was just pointing out what you had obviously missed.

3)  What's the huge difference then?  They are using the same engine.  The graphics are enhanced, the lighting is enhanced, but it's the same Bungie code.

4)  The CPU and GPU (since it's AGP) are unaffected by the bus speed.  The cache has a direct effect on performance across the board.  I wouldn't expect an xbox fangirl like you to understand pc arcitecture (aka xbox architecture).

5)  Oh I guess you forgot how to count, you missed 5.  At least you got to 4 with out a problem.  Let me save you the trouble, you still make no sense.

6)  Not my problem you can't come to grips with this.  I run 1900X1600 in U2TA at 16bit, 1600X1280 at 32bit.  Want me to send you a video capture?

7)  Um, you said I probably played it shortly and quit.  I was just countering your point.  What kind of cookies do you have, so I can load them in my shotgun and fire them down your throat over XBC?  I would mop you up like the pimple faced girl you are.  I've been playing FPS since Wolf 3d, bitch.  I'm not the best but I'll whip your whining ass.

8)  Still sells games.

9)  Hey I was just pointing out the facts.  Don't be mad.  Rationalize?  As in justify?  Don't use big words you don't understand.

And if you're eating shit for breakfast, that kinda helps explain the abundance of it between your ears.

You're never going to convince someone who absolutely loves Halo that it isn't perfect, same with Half life.

Both games should be great, will have faults, and some people will like one more then the other.

Truely spoken.

Only,  more people will like Halo 2 because it will be alot better. laugh.gif

Foe:  I use the same handle I use here, I'll be looking for you.  Not on that often.  Married, 4 month old kid, full time job, new house, etc, but I play whenever I can find the time.

Frizz (& the rest of the halo fanboys):  Fact is neither game is out, but HL2 has been in development over twice as long as Halo2, and the sales and online playtime will tell the story (not to mention HL2 will be out first, since halo 2 is continuously being pushed back).  HL was a groundbreaking acheivement, and so was halo as far as consoles go.  None of what you said in your last post is substantial; I can just say exactly what yousaid but in reverse and there would be no recourse but to say "is not!".

100 replies.  Most xbox fans haven't played hl because there was no hl for xbox.  There was a halo for xbox and that's where the loyalty comes from and why the poll stats reflect a following here for the sequel.  The same poll on a PC site would be an inverse of what we have here.  Even then HL2 has a good amount of votes.

First of all you don't know this for a fact.  Stop guessing, it makes your argument seem biased!

I for one, have played HL and a couple of it's mods, Quake Series, UT2003, 1942, MOHAA, etc......... and I still like Halo more, even though you can classify me as a PC gamer.  So basically what I'm getting at is stop guessing about statistics you don't have proof of, by saying Xbox owners haven't played "certain" PC Games.

Another thing: we all know that more ppl will be playing HL2 online than Halo because more ppl own PCs than Xboxes and they wouldn't have to pay extra for a reliable online connection.  So I don't see how this can determine if HL2 or Halo is better (yet ppl keep bringing it up) rolleyes.gif .

QUOTE (Sykotek @ Sep 24 2003, 05:41 PM)
I got a 2.0GHZ P4 system with 512MB RAM and GeForce4 for $500 last summer.  The same system can be had for less than $300 now (xbox price territory), and it will blow away any xbox, or any console.

From gamespy:
QUOTE
But the biggest problem with the graphics -- and the entire game, for that matter -- is that you'll need a pretty powerful PC to run Halo at a steady clip. My main machine is a P2.54 GHz P4 with a GeForce 4 and 1GB of RAM, ......But even at 800x600 with some of the details turned down, Halo still feels sluggish -- disappointing for a game that looked fantastic and ran fairly well on the Xbox two years ago.

What did you say about your 2.0ghz p4 with 512mb of ram blowing away anything the xbox can do?  Looks like it couldn't even handle halo at all. laugh.gif So blow it out your ear.
