I would hesitate to solder to the bios chip, the pins are exremly close together, and it will be verry easy to accidentaly bridge the pins with solder.  If you follow the bottom d0 trace, it goes to a via directly bellow the TSOP. I would connect here before I would atempt to conect directly to the TSOP. I believe it is the 5th pin from the right on the tsop (closest to the processor) You can verrify this with a continuity checker / Ohm meter.

Your best bet is still to fix the traces, gently scrape them to bare metal, then tin the 30gauge wire with flux solder. Then hold the wire to the trace, and touch it with the iron just long enough for the solder to flow from the wire to the trace. once you know you have fixed the trace, hot glue that sucker in place so you don't rip it off.

Well I just had a look at my mobo and I noticed that the 5th pin from the right on the TSOP is liked to a point that would be fairly easy to get, so could I just solder a wire from what's left of the d0 trace to that point?

I can only get access to my webcam atm but I managed to get a pic:

EDIT: I just realised that thedustycelt might've meant the 5th pin from the right on the other side of the TSOP chip (the side that goes towards the back of the xbox (where the video and ethernet outs are), so could someone please clarify wether it's the 5th pin fromt he right on the bottom side of the TSOP (the front of the xbox, facing towards where the controller ports and dvd drive are) or on the top side (the back of the xbox, facing towards where the video and ethernet outs are). Thanks to anyone who can clarify this for me, as I'm trying to take ALL the precautions to avoid any more fuckups, as I'd rather not have to fork out anymore cash (I've spent £75 since thursday on various xbox mods)

What I meant was is the the 5th pin from the right on the bottom or the top of the TSOP chip that you have to make a connection to the upper d0 to?

I believe that you are looking at the wrong side of the TSOP it is the side furthest from the top D0 (in between the TSOP and the EPROM)

You can follow the trace, remember that vias pass through the motherboard to the other side. so if you follow the trace from the top d0 via it goes to the bottom and runs along the d0 pad that was ripped from the botom. it then hits another via and goes back to the top you can't see it on the top because the trace and the via are under the tsop.

biggrin.gif so thanks very much guys, I really appreciate it everyone who helped.

The only thing is now to get my chip working laugh.gif as now I can't get it to boot from the chip. The Xenium has a red light on it, so it is receiving power, so so I'm guessing this is a d0 problem. I've got the trace for the upper d0 linked to the chip and then to the tsop chip, so I'm guessing the problem is with the d0 on my chip. Y'see the solder pad for the d0 for a pin header install came off laugh.gif, so I used the d0 for the quick solder. I'm guessing the two d0's aren't compatible so I guess it's a quick solder install for me.

I'd best ask in the Xenium forum just in case.

Glad to here you got it working!

I would go ahead and solder the chip in at this point, because the solderless d0 connectors will never reach your d0 now that it has moved so far from the original. You can just conect it to the wire that you used to jumper to the tsop.

One more thing, Get a big glob of hot glue on to your connections to the board so it dosn't get riped off again. Then just snip your jumper wire and splice in the d0 from the chip.

At least my xbox works now though smile.gif
