Destroyed D0 Points
« on: April 17, 2004, 09:35:00 AM »

I tried to do a headerpin install on the Xenium and whilst trying to solder the d0 I managed to burn off the top d0 and then I soldered it to the bottom d0, but that got pulled off grr.gif and now my Xbox just FRAGs. Is their anyway to save my Xbox or will I have to buy a new mobo? If I do have to buy a new mobo does it have to be the same version as my current one (1.4)?

Any version (albeit it has to match your psu socket).  If you destroyed both d0's you may wanna consider having someone do it for you.  Mobos aint cheap.   beerchug.gif

hehe yea I just thought I could do it myself. I blame my naff soldering iron, though, so I'll be getting a new one pretty soon. Also if any version is okay, then will like a 1.0 work on my 1.4 if they are both UK PAL? or are there PSU differences within regions?

I just realised, does tracing the d0 and bridging just mean scratching away at the trace with a sharp object till it's shiny and then soldering to the shiny bit?

Just to answer your question on different mobo's a v1.0 has a different psu connector to a 1.4, also whereabouts are you in the uk, i've done a few of the trace repares before and i might be able to help out.

West Yorkshire's probably a little too much of a treck 4 ya then, any way if your gonna have a go yourself, all youve gotta d s use a sharp object like the tip of a scalpel to carefully scrape away a the green stuff on the wires, then i use a bit of flux to let the solder flow on the track better, use quite a fine cable for the bridging, maybe a strand from an old floppy drive cable if you have one hangin around, then all ya gotta do is solder the 2 ends to the mobo, just make sure you get the right track, and try not to scrape away at any other tracks near by so that yo don't accidentaly form a conection 2 that and short out. if your lookin 4 a decent soldering iron though i'd go with a Welter. Just keep at it cos it might take a few goes.

Clean the ends of the printed circuit on each side adjacent to where the d0 points were using a fibreglass pen. Link one to the other with something like a piece of fine kynar wire and use rosin cored solder. You can get all the bits from cpc.co.uk.
You may want to bear in mind that if you get a new Mobo you will not be able to use your original HDD  with the M$ bios if you did not unlock it prior to doing the damage. Did you ever do a back up including the eeprom?.
If you get really stuck PM me but we are also in West Yorkshire so you would need to bring it or ship it. Possibly someone local does this sort of repair and that may be the cheapest option.

QUOTE
A FRAG is supposed to indicate that your d0 point is okay. Are you sure the d0 is the problem?

He broke both D0 points so the machine will Frag. Bust the bottom one and you can still get away with the TSOP. Bust the top one and you need to link both points together
