« on: June 05, 2006, 07:17:00 PM »

As i am sure all of you know there will be two PS3 packeges one with a 60 gig hardrive and one with a 20 gig.  the 60 gig cost 600$ the 20 gig 500$ are there any other differances between the two.  I think i heard some thing about a HDMI port not being on the 500 dollar one but i have no clue wat that is or wat it means for gaming so if you have and y clue and can put it ino simple terms please let me know.[/size

So the PlayStation 3, as we just learned, is launching as two different SKUs. Since many of you have asked, and just as many of you have tipped us to the press release, here are the differences between the "base" and "premium" version of the console.

    * You lose 40GB (20GB base vs. 60GB)
    * You lose HDMI output
    * You lose MemoryStick / SD / CompactFlash slots
    * You lose 802.11 b/g wireless
    * You save $100

We are not sure how upgradeable the base model is going to be. The extra $100 is looking good to us. It's kind of strange how Sony did an about-face on the multiple SKU model, but we guess it has something to do with that $

well you could go either ways here, if you guys plan on getting a really nice quality HDTV, HDMI will beuseful but if not owell. sleeping.gif

The 40GB is something that would be a little more important if you ask me, biggrin.gif

The Memory stick expansion would be good for you but you can buy that as a acessory.(most likely gonna be upwards of $40 anyway. smile.gif

Wireless feature is conveinet if you plan on moving into Nicks room pop.gif

You save 100... more like a 120 with TAx but the acessorys could total up as more than the extra $100 uhh.gif

Flat out i would recomend the 60GB SKU because when $ONY anounces the price of acsessory the 40Gb SKu may very well turn in to the "TARD PAK" so go with the extra 100 dollars you will find it usefull in the future. cool.gif

as far as what HDMI is, its a digital connector, and it is required by BlueRay standards to watch blueray movies in the maximum quality. without HDMI, blueray is designed to automatically downsample the video to a lower quality. i'm not sure how far it downsamples it though.

also, don't forget that the chipset on the $500 ps3 is limited and doesn't support 1080p.
