Newbie Pc Question
« on: December 06, 2005, 05:29:00 PM »

ok, first of all i know this is a newb question but i don't know much about pc's. i have a dell dimension in which the hard drive crashed. i know it's not a great pc but it was free. anyway i took the tower apart and unplugged the drive. i've never seen these types of cables before. i'm very familiar with IDE cables from modding my box and installing others in PC's. so, here is my question: can i convert these to IDE and if not what do i need to look for when buying my replacement drive???? by the way i searched but came back with no results. any help is appreciated.....

It's probably a SATA drive.  Just search Newegg for SATA as opposed to IDE, and it should drop right in.

You will only get it replaced if you have warranty on it still also if that is a new Dell machine and you have opened it you invalid your warranty if its old dell then just buy new IDE drive they are so cheap now.
