A 6600GT would be CHEAPER than the X700PRO, so i think you maybe saw 6800GTs.

The X700Pro doesn't look too bad, but a 6600GT might work out a little better.  You can even get a low end 6800 for cheaper than the X700Pro.  But I'm also leaning towards those because I have one, so I'm speaking from experience with it.

I wouldn't go with a basic level 6600 either, just the GT model.

alright i found the one your talking about , but would you recommend the 128mb or the 256mb? or it really doesn't matter too much?

I have the 128MB because 256MB wasn't offered in AGP on the model I wanted, and it's been fine to me.

I don't think it's that much of a difference performance wise, but if its not much more money then go for it.

I'd still aim for a bit more RAM too, at least another 512MB.

alright and you run fear at max settings pretty much? and it runs really smoothly?

Man that's bad advice.

Intel P4 3.4ghz - - 1gb Corsair PC3200 DDR-SDRAM - - ATi Radeon X800XL 256mb - - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Z1 - - Seagate Barracuda 160gb 7200 RPM

I have that and I can hardly play it on high settings. You want at least an X800 or a 6800 to play F.E.A.R., it's a VERY demanding game.

alright, well i have the 6600 gt card now, and it seems to be working okay, cod2 i cna play with directx9 now and on fairly high settings, quake 4 i have set on high, put f.e.a.r. is still a problem, the test movie runs pretty good with medium, okay with high, and borderline okay with maximum, but the minute i go into the real game, it's a mess, even with low and my screen res set to 800x600 it's still choppy, not like a constant chop that usually occurs when your gfx are too high, it's a chop that occurs when something new loads, like, i open a door, it takes like 5 seconds to open the door, once the doors open, if i go to close it and open it again it's smooth as anything, but the initial stuff gives me big chops, is this because iaonly have 512mb of ram and 128mb of video ram? because i know for sure this gfx card can handle the game on low, and it's not handling it as it should

wghat should i do?

RAM would help. It would be able to load textures and objects quicker! The minimum recommended amount of RAM for FEAR is 1gb, so i'd get that. However, the most important aspect is your video card. You really do need a VERY good card to run FEAR on high. Video card memory doesn't make a massive amount of difference really, it's more about clock speeds.
I have an ATi Radeon X800 XL 256mb, and I can run it on maximum but with soft shadows off. To run it with soft shadows, you really do need SLI'd 2 x GeForce 7800 GTXs, as nothing else on the market will run it.

You can still have a great time playing on medium though with a decent card. The 6600GT is a middle of the range card these days...
